Here is my story. Got caught 56kph over an 80 road. I was on Highway 6 on my way home at 12am from Guelph. It was on a downhill road approaching 403 near york exit. There was one car on the right lane infront of me. and behind it to the left lane was a black suv. Because it was a downhill, I decided to just let the car roll and when i got near the car ahead i passed the car in front of me. As i approached 403 I slowed down to 80kph to exit towards brantford, that's when i notice the black suv follwing me. and it turned out that it was a police. i did not realize it was until i saw the light signalling me to pull over. i was so stunned/scared because it was my first time to be pulled-over (no prior records). when the officer asked me why am i driving so fast, i can only muster "i just want to go home". he said he clocked me at 136kph. so my rent-a-car was towed for 7 days (yes it was). my license got suspended for 7 days. I've already payed enough for the towing/impound and the car rental cost. in summary, i got a summon for stunt driving - speeding 56kph above the 80kph limit. i regret what happened for every single second since then. it is a really depressing experience.it has been a tough lesson for me and i would not allow that to happen again ever. now what are my chances to get the charge lower than stunt driving? how likely will i be offered a settlement on my first appearance? am i going to jail? i am so troubled, pls i need your advice.

No, you're not going to jail. Yes, there's a possibility that they'll offer you a charge of 49km over. However, do yourself a favor and drop this hill story. To say you let go of the gas, coasted, and your car catapulted from 80 to nearly 140... it's insulting. Not that it's a defense anyways.

thanks for the reply bend. sorry for the confusion, i didnt let go of the gas pedal. what i meant was just steady on the pedal while going downhill, which i know is a stupid thing to do. while i did step on more to when i was going back to the right lane to safely pass the car infront and the black suv in the left lane. i think thats what really got me. and this is what makes me nervous, because i wasnt caught by a radar from a roadside at the middle of the road. the black suv(which was the police) was on the left lane. so i passed him on the left lane, and i passed the car on the right lane.

I got a hand-held device ticket on Thursday March 16. $490 and 3 demerit points. The officer was hiding on a street and I drove by him with my phone in my hand.
I had a speeding ticket in May 2013 which brought me to 9 demerit points out of 15. I received a letter and had to attend an interview. Due to a history of speeding tickets and a previous interview a few years prior, the interviewer decided to put me on zero tolerance for a year. Meaning if I…
Around 3 months ago my friend told me that he thinks he ran Red Light on highway 7. ok his car was 1-2 meters away the Stop Line when the Light turned RED he then couldn't stop so he ran because Speed Limit on HWY7 is 80km/h and you all know none of drivers do under 80km/h they always at 83-85km/h,…
Today I was pulled over by a cop, and he told me that I was following to closely. There was no collision - I was following him, and I had kept enough distance (I would have atleast 1 car length or more) - when he turned on the lights and siren, I pulled over - this means that I was able to brake in…
Per the subject, I was stopped just over a week ago. I mentioned to the officer that I was going with traffic, and couldn't have been going over 125km. He mentioned that I was spotted by aircraft, and that he is just the messenger for aircraft patrol.
This morning, I was on the WB 407 on my way to school. For about 15 km, I was following an OPP SUV in the left lane. The officer was generally driving between 120 and 125, and I made sure to keep a safe distance. Before I go any further, yes, I know I was speeding,…
I was recently charged with a speeding ticket and driving with a suspended license. I was given the tickets on Feb 3rd and have since hired a paralegal. The paralegal asked when my court/summons date was. I cannot seem to find my tickets so I called the court and gave them my driver's license to…
How easy would it be to beat a ticket for "failing to provide proof of insurance" for the simple reason of a street name misspelling on my proof of insurance? The street is a woman's name, ending in ie, but the insurance slip was spelled with a y. In my mind this is not a failure to…
Issued in a news release by Toronto Police Traffic Services Sergeant Tim Burrows, these were the top 10 peeves of drivers in an on-line survey by the Toronto Police:
