Re: OPP cruiser rear-ended, minor injuries sustained by 2 LE

Sounds like a "rubber neck" situation as the driver would have seen the transport in the ditch and was not paying attention and whacks the cruiser.

Re: Where does it apply?

There are a few sections that would apply off of the highway under the HTA. One being 199.

When you read most sections it has the word "highway" (ie: while on a higway, upon a highway, etc..) those are the ones specific to being on a highway. Definition of highway is property line to property line. If the section does not state highway, it is ...

I walk, bike to work when weather permits (burns off donut calories). We make a list before we go shopping and to what stores so we go in order, rather than jumping back and forth. Our regular speed has not changed, our braking has, soon as I see a red light ...

If that was the case then why do most of the motorist that do fall in the ditches happen to fall in most in winter? Does that mean that those drivers are simply bad drivers then? .
Simply drivers not adapting to changing weather and road conditions that frequent in the winter months.

Re: Where does it apply?

HTA applies property line to property line, which includes the stop signs from private parking lots, as those signs are within the property lines.

HTA does not apply to parking lots, but the Criminal Code does and some bylaws do.

HELLOOO! People just don't go into the ditch for no reason. The weather is a HUGE factor!

Absolutely no reason to go in the ditch. Weather is not a factor, it is the motorist who fails to adapt to the weather, again it's Canada, drivers should expect it. If the weather is the factor....why is every vehicle not in?

Why not blame City Services Department(s) for not salting/sanding the roads too?

People rely way too much on someone else to do something, then to blame them for their own inaction of driving according to weather. It is Canada, when it is less than 5C, one should start to expect ice on the roads (wind can lower the temperature below freezing ...

Just for future if the traffic signal has a cross walk control device, it always starts flashing about 10 seconds prior to the traffic light turning to amber. This also gives a prudent / defensive driver an additional "heads up" the light is going to change and more time to slow down or (for bookm) speed up! :D

Re: Stopping two cars

I cant see how a lidar can measure the speed of car2. The angles are too tight.

Simply, if it's in too close to V1 then it can not be targeted.

Now having said that, has the officer watched these 2 vehicles over time and neither appear to be gaining or pulling away from the other....then going relatively the same speed(within 5km/hr of each ...

The longer graduation periods are proposed to increase the timeframe to 36 months. The argument is that they have a longer period of time to develop skills and experience.

Passenger side approach is common. It is to prevent being hit standing beside the drivers door. I find it harded than hard to believe the officer did not speak to you. If the officer did not "speak" to you then you have no requirement to surrender a licence to which you did.

I have no problems in seeing a lidar being able to get the speed of car1, but the angles for car2 are really tight.

That is a better explanation of what I have been saying.......that IF the pictures were to scale (ie vehicles should be 2.6m wide) then there might be less chance a lidar could get #2.

Veh 1 width of 2.6m, 500m the beam is 1.5m ...

Re: Stopping two cars

A lidar doesnt send a constant beam, but a series of pulses. Theres a microprocessor inside the lidar which tries to make sense of all signals received from all those pulses. Its going to try to get an average speed and throw out what could be noise. What if it locks onto car1s speed and thinks car2s speed is noise?

The lidar sends out more than ...
