http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/609928 I'd also like to hear everyone's opinions on the other aspects of the article. What grabbed me is that I'm happy that one public police figure (Dave Wilson) respects the law, unlike Cam and Julian.

Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
Hahaha, hilarious last few posts. I've heard the parking lights "are CITY lights!" argument before. What I don't get is the amount of Caravans using the amber marker DRLs at night with no headlights at all. They have to know that their headlights aren't on...right? :? I've had arguments before with people who insist that they don't have to worry about lighting in their GM. ALL of the people I have had this argument with did not know there was a separate light switch to override the automatic headlights. Bah. :x EDIT: That's exactly what I meant. Of the sections that do actually apply to lane discipline (147 (1), maybe 148 (2)), none of them are regularly enforced like speeding and seatbelt laws are.

Bear, that's funny AND sad at the same time. this is a prime example of where lawmakers had good intentions but failed to predict the inevitable consequences of people not understanding the headlight system in modern cars. The factories did their job, but who taught all the naive drivers out there about the new system. Our van has cryptic symbols on a lever style switch that took me a few minutes to figure out. My wife didn't know she had the option of manually turning on the lights. My old Lincoln has auto lights at night, but still retains the old "pull" knob style switch so when in doubt, just pull it out like they've been doing for decades. While on the subject, come ride with me (Caution: really boring video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fZzKoI1ybs

Lane discipline has little to do with our speed limit - it's the lack of laws and lack of enforcement, along with a general selfish driving attitude from major urban areas like Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, etc., that is spreading like a cancer. When I first learned to drive (admittedly earlier than 16  ), changing lanes without signalling was an insult meant to tell the driver behind you that they are doing something wrong. Now it's just lazyness. Back then, when you saw a driver after sundown with no taillights on, you flash your highbeams at them and they understood what that meant! Now they slam on the brakes and give you a "How dare you!" look as you pass them. I once followed a Matrix across Toronto (from Greenwood all the way to Islington on Bloor-Danforth) at 4 am, flashing my lights at him at every red light. At least he gave me a wave of apology after it took him driving across an entire city to realise that he had no lights on (and no, he wasn't flipping me off  ). Bookm is absolutely right - we don't need more laws, we need to change people's attitudes and their education. If people don't want the government to nanny the heck out of us, stop being douchebags. Is it me or did anyone else try to click stop being douchebags?

Of course the government can never see the effects of what they do long term. They dont see it now with all the money they are creating and expanding the monetary base, they forget about fractional reserve banking, when they sold the 407 they had no idea how much more traffic would end up on the 401. The same goes for mandatory auto insurance and seat belts. These give people a false sense of security. We have to many laws. I think ticketcombat said In germany you can drive drunk but the fines go up and insurance won't pay if you do. This would work better than this. Even if they crash, insurance will pay and you just lose your license(most will still drive anyways). I wonder in this province if insurance was not forced by law, if people would drive different, (take less risk), and it would be great because insurance companies could only charge what people could afford. Government rarely sees the consequences of what they do. I know they don't see what limiting trucks to 105 will do without forcing them in the right lane only, in the states they didn't see the effects of forcing banks to lend to under qualified applicants while the fed was inflating and keeping the price of interest artificially low. Some central banks have trippled and doubled the monetary base. I think they forget that this is the base which the fractional reserve system uses as a reserve upon which to make loan's and expand the supply of money. They also have no idea how much inflation they are going to create when this money enters the process.

Not surprised with that story. On my drive home tonight I saw three vehicles with only their daytime running lights on. They were also driving under the posted speed limit. "I'm safe because I obey the speed limit." Yeah... okay... Also last week watched the Toronto Police set up a roadblock on my street due to a fire at an apartment complex down the road. The reaction of drivers was eye-popping. I wish I'd had a video camera. I'd have to say, despite the police giving out some well-deserved verbal tongue lashings, they were remarkably patient, particularly to the guy who put to wheels on the grass and attempted to drive around the police cars that were parked perpendicular to the road with their red & blues lit up. No tickets handed out, just lots of yelling. I hear ya.

I have a fix for all of this. Every car on the road gets one of those Bugs Bunny hidden boxing gloves. Next this is tricky with the new law but every car get a cellular number displayed on the back window, or we used the license plate. Now then, if Johnny Lanehog is sitting in the left lane or if Amanda Nolook cut you off or if Tony the Tiger is driving down the road eating his cereal, you copy down the number, lets say we all have digital cameras mounted with steering wheel activation, safety first here people. Now with the number you pull off to the shoulder, parking lot wherever.....and dial the number. You pick if its a gut shot, head shot or kidney shot, press one of the following three options, and the dumb dumb gets the hint. We can even have call display, with a picture of you and your car, or just a Walmart happy face behind the wheel. Whats that don't like the fist of fury? Then we can use a taser or cattle prod. Once again, dial the number and guzunt...... Then expect the pleasant wave as you drive by. Last night on the way home I damn near used my bumper to knock some grampa in the good ol' Lincoln Towncar out of my way.....Why you ask, because at every intersection he hit the brakes and slowed to 35 KMH, in a 60 zone, with green lights and little cross bound traffic.......heh,heh,heh ....catching my breath...hang on. I was nearly rear ended three times by three different drivers because of him. Safety, no. When the light is green I expect to go...simple stuff. Wish I had my cattle prod. Rant off.

When I was in Manhatten I was amazed, everybody slows down or practically stops at green lights. I guess they're too scared to hit wayward pedestrians and deal with the lawsuit that follows. Hey Reflections, what's going to stop the dumb dumb from dialing your number and getting you back for the gut punch? After all the ones who deserve it are the first to argue THEY were doing nothing wrong. But I like the idea. Maybe instead you can dial their number and turn on their headlights!!!

Guys i was just thinking. I have figured out what the OPP is all about. There logo has been telling me something we have been right about all this time.!!!!!!! O . P . P The O is a donought. The first P represents a Lidar Gun. The second one kind of resembles some sort of lidar gun. The O also has another meaning as the shocked face of a motorist who has been pulled over and has his car taken away on a flat bed.

You complain about speed enforcement and to concentrate on other aspects of the HTA, but you yourself are so fixated on speed that over 90% of your posts go off topic by mentioning it. Too ironic! There is absolutely no reason to being 50 over a speed limit, I do not buy it. I have seen a huge reduction in vehicles travelling those speeds. I used to obtain 1-2 vehicles per block of shifts travelling that speed and this year (16 blocks) I have only 3. Went to a collision yesterday on a secondary highway. The main cause was following too close. However just for your peace of mind, speed was involved, but only to the point that 2 stationary objects can not strike one another. For more peace of mind, 80% of the offence notices I issued yesterday did not involve speed. Just after high noon did I finally stop a vehicle 20over on the 401 (over 6hrs into shift)

90% of my posts are complaints about speed enforcement, but my main pet peeves are: 1) Lack of due care and attention 2) Improper behaviour (signalling, poor lane discipline etc.) 3) Lack of proper vehicle maintenance In that order of importance.

What kind of a man would put a known criminal in charge of a major branch of government? Apart from, say, the average voter.
1) Lack of courtesy 2) Impatience That covers about 95% of the things that make me prefer HSD over the other types of detachments. I'm going to get them ALLLLLL. :x :x :x :D

No arguments from me on that count. I personally subscribe to the European school of driving. No matter how fast I'm going in the left lane, if I see someone moving up from behind, I get out of the way. I'd do that even if I were breaking the speed record for section 172. And Bear, while this post mentions speed, the main focus of it is courtesy :8

Thats very bad so a tailgater crashed into someone following to close to him? I assume he got a charge for following to close, careless driving etc? Did the guy in front also get a charge for blocking traffic, driving in a passing lane, etc? I am not complaining about speed enforcement. That would suggest that the speed limit actually made sense and was set properly. We have the same limit on all roads, that all have a different design, volume, traffic patterns, urban, country side? I know thats not right either. Most countries have faster limits on roads outside the city. England does this to on their countries in non urban areas. it must just be our highways that are a joke. On most city roads most drivers are usually 5-15 over the limit. Well on the highway thats a much different story. I begin to wonder if it is like 80-90 % of the cars or maybe the limit itself is just not set right.

Lead vehicle (V3) was stopped on the highway to make a left hand turn due to oncoming traffic.. V2 observes V3 and starts braking as normal to stop. V2 looks behind, observes V1 not slowing. V2 does not want to get smoked from behind, tries to move right onto the shoulder to escape. V1 brakes, but still strikes back left corner of V2 as it tried to escape. DR1 charged with careless driving. V3 unscathed.

Hi so I have a bizzare situation. Today I received a summons for "being the owner of a motor vehicle bearing Vehicle Identification Number ###, failed to submit the vehicle, equipment or drawn vehicle for inspection or tests as required by an officer" for a vehicle I previously owned. Apparently a violation of HTA 82(9).
The date of offense is June 15, the summons was issued on October 26th and I…
Hi, I need some help for the ticket of lmproper left turn.
When i drove my car from east to west, intending to make a left turn and stop in front of stop line. There was a car in front of me, which has turn on yellow light. The light was turning red and then I thought I cannot leave in the intersection and turned, an incoming car was runing the light and hit me. No one got hurt but both cars had…
Have a ticket in which the radar used was a Genesis VP Directional. I had downloaded the manual for a Genesis VP but I now realize that the unit is not the same so it is the wrong manual. My trial is very soon so I do not have time to ask for disclosure of the manual.
Does anyone have access to an electronic version of the manual for Genesis VP Directional?
I was pulled over today in the city of Oakville for going 75 in a 40 zone. However, I am 100 percent certain that I was going only 50 in the 40 zone. When I was pulled over, I was driving my Dad's car which I felt was the reason I was getting stopped since two teenagers driving a 2013 S Class. He asked does I know why I am being pulled over and I…
I really need help on fighting my 9 tickets i received from one police officer. Here is some background of what happened!
I was caught speeding 66km on a 40km (school zone) on January 29, 2010. I was driving my friend's car and turns out she didnt renew the validation on the vehicle and didnt leave the up to date insurance paper on the car.
Hey question that I think here's probably the best place to get the answer:
I was charged with a careless driving offence in oct, trail in early april, so as of right now my insurance record is 100% clean... except the officer did file an accident report at the scene where I was classified at fault due to it being PI (although very minor). The person I hit did not sue etc, so the insurance company…
Very much unintentionally passed a stopped bus, with sign and flashing lights. Didn't realize I had done it until I was at the end of the bus. I'll save you my sob story, but it was truly accidental. I'm generally very cautious and have a perfect driving record. Never been stopped.
While I realize if a cop had seen me that I would have gotten a ticket, there were none in sight. Though I may very…
I was recently pulled over for running a red and I wasnt able to find my wallet in the car at the time to hand over my license. I had a passport in the vehicle that he used. The wallet was in the vehicle, it just fell through the seats. (Tough to find a black leather wallet in a black/black leather truck at night).
The officer still wrote the tickets for both he signed the one ticket (failure to…
I was passing a vehicle that was going slow for me and there was an oncoming vehicle coming at me. I speed up to get around the person I was passing and the oncoming vehicle turns out to be a cop who turns around and tickets me for going 110km in a 80km zone. How does it work with passing a vehicle? Once I passed the vehicle I went back down to my original speed of just under 100. The officer…
I picked up a brand new (old stock) Fuzzbuster a while ago at auction (wopping $5!!) and I want to mount it on the dash of my old GTO as a cool accessory when I show it at car shows. But I'm not sure if it's legal or not.
Here's my thoughts:
- It is early 70's technology (x-band) so it won't detect modern police radar. That's assuming no police force uses the old x-band frequency.
Hi guys, I'm still a little in shock of getting my first traffic ticket...
On Monday afternoon, I was returning from Toronto to Ottawa on HW416, I was driving about 15 over 100 like always. Then a car came very close to me on the left lane and made me nervous, I speed up unintentionally to pass the car and change lane, but while doing that a police car pull out of the median. He was hiding in…
May i ask this question regarding transport trucks limited to 105 km/h. Moving road blocks or safety?
IMO it isnt speed that kills. I find transport trucks infact help keep the road going. With cars that choose to not move to the right and slow down the middle lane the trucks would try to pass in their passing lane therefore the slower traffic would move right.
Received a notice from the police that a motion is being put forward to adjourn upcoming trial date. Notice indicates that an officer has sworn an affidavit that the crucial witness cannot attend date trial is set for (we know there is a social engagement at 7:30 pm for the witness, trial time is 1:30 pm). This further delay is a big problem to my daughter's case. She is moving away to…
This is what happened. I was travelling west on a four lane city street that was very light with traffic. I was making a left hand turn into a wide driveway of a business. There was traffic lights about 100 yards past the driveway and were red for the east-west traffic. I was in the left lane with my signal on and there was no oncoming traffic due to the red light. I was slowed right down…
I was driving my families older car and got pulled over, and the police officer informed me my plate was dirty. He issued me a ticket of $110 for the 13(2) act and obstruct plate as the offense. He informed me that such a plate could be used to avoid red lights as well as 407 tolls, also that buying a new plate can help to lower the ticket if I fight the charge, and that he also took a picture…
I received a red light camera ticket. In the picture, you see an ambulance in front of me with flashing lights. I had moved to alleviate the traffic behind me for the emergency vehicles coming behind it.
Is this a possible defense, if so, does anyone know any good case law to justify this position?
what happens if they charge someone for driving at 151Km/hr in montreal and they put for trial, appear after some months and sadly lost the trial ?
In montreal its $300 fine and 5demerit points ...
I heard Ontario and Qubec share the information. So once the trial is over ( and when the file moved to ontario) will his car gets towed and licence get suspended for 7days (later to 30 days ) ? and he…
I got a notice in the mail that trial is set four weeks from today, so it's time to request disclosure. I have zero chance of getting an 11b since trial is less than two months after the offense date and the officer did not reduce the charge. I really want to try and create delays on the trial, to reduce the chance of the officer showing up on multiple occasions. Is there any known loop-holes…
This weekend my father was involved in an accident with a transit bus in Burlington, ON. After the police showed up he was charged with "Fail to obey stop sign" Sec. 136(1)(a). At this particular intersection there NO stop signs but there are traffic lights. There is construction going on there so one of the light posts is smaller.
Driving conditions were terribly wet and visibility was low.…
So my boyfriend and I recently started dating. I have a vehicle that was insured. Insurance cost too much and I found it was just as easy to walk to work due to how close it was. But I didn't want to get rid of my car just yet, plus I'm still making payments on it as well. When we moved into our appartment together, I had it towed to my parking spot out back.
I was making a left hand legal turn on a green light, a driver came through the lane I was supposed to be going into ran the red and hit me head on as I was turning into my lane. When the officer came he was telling me that I was racing and driving recklessly because apparently there was reports of street racing in the area. I was not charged on the scene for this but I'm scared i am going to be…
I got a ticket for failure to surrender insurance because I did not have my new insurance stubs with me, just a bunch of expired ones. My policy number has not changed, so I asked the officer to just run the policy number so I could prove that I was in fact insured. He said they don't have that ability, handed me the ticket and reminded me that my car could have been impounded.
So I'm in a bit of a pickle and would appreciate if someone could clarify something for me.
I'm less than a month away (test on April 6th) from getting my full G license, and got a speeding ticket recently. The ticket was for 49km/h over the posted limit of 100km/h on the 403 in Oakville/Halton region, but was reduced from the initial ~60km/h over.
