Re: motorcycle handlebar laws

Sooo.... how exactly does the officer measure from the seat while the rider is sitting on it ? LOL
Just got my bike license last year and promptly bought (3) bikes. Two of them are customized. One, heavily (old-school 70's long-fork chopper). I'll probably have to start a personal thread on the many stops I'm facing if all the stringent bike laws ...

Re: Faded License Plate

Being naturally suspicious of the government, I have to believe the MTO is current using garbage paint on their plates ON PURPOSE. I got my vanity plates in 1982 when the letters were dark blue on non-reflective white background. They are still in excellent condition today. Every day, I see new(er) plates (light blue on reflective white background ...

Let the lawyer take care of it. The lawyer might tell you the passenger would make a good witness and help in your defense.
BTW, I ALSO wish I had an M3 when I was 17. In fact, at 47, I STILL wish I could afford one ;)

Re: My observations at traffic court in Markham

Be sure that there really is NO difference (points vs no-points) with your insurance agent.

I checked with mine. He said he only considers POINTS when judging convictions, so I gladly took the 15-over no-points deal last time (down from 32-over). Was a much smaller fine as well.

Here's MY experience with the plane and the plea I took. I really wanted to challenge the plane-guy... even had a full defense planned out, but the plea was really reasonable.

Re: Passengers on the bed of a truck

I had a problem last month... Too many passengers for my pickup. When we were teens, we always had a couple "extras" rolin' around in the box, but this is now, so I called the local police. They told me as long as all the belts were used, extra passengers were free to ride in the box. Of course, EVERY kid called dibs on the box!!

So we head over ...

I blame GIRLS!

If they didn't look at the cool guy with the loud engine when he hammers it for attention, there would be no market for low-restriction mufflers.

But the fact is, load pipes ARE cool! I'm just not entirely sure how one defines cool. In fact, defining it wouldn't be cool :P

Did the officer travel over the exact same path as you (was he following you)? He would have to stand up and answer under oath to your question about road condition. Was there sand/dirt on the road, perhaps moisture from various sources?

The officer will likely provide testimony based on his training regarding clean, dry pavement (as per Bear ...

License Restriction... Glasses

I was filling out my application for my Passport the other day and noticed on the back of my drivers license that I have a corrective lens requirement. I had Lazik corrective surgery last year and no longer wear glasses.
Is that something I need to change at the MTO? Or should I carry around the rather substantial BILL I received ;). I've been ...

Re: Exceeding Speed Limit to Pass - isn't it allowed?

No, I don't go all nuts with the high beams or anything. Just a a few gentle flicks of the brights (which I also do when passing a car).

This is all standard practice in Europe. Too bad we can't incorporate some of their driving etiquette. Here, a flick of the brights is apt to get you a face full of brake lights instead of the courtesy of moving ...

Is this true?? I follow the well-understood and accepted European practice of flicking the high-beams at left lane slugs ALL THE TIME (and it usually works). I never once thought it might be illegal

Unless the left lane person saw the cruiser (lights on or not) and being responsible moved over to the left lane and slowed down to avoid the vehicle on the shoulder.

The best deal for speeding is 10 minutes before the court opens. The Crown will find you. If not, find him/her yourself. Ask that the officer be pointed out as proof he is in court that day. It's almost assured that you can get 15-over ($60 and out the door, no points, no insurance hit).

In my experience, you don't get much of a deal from the Prosecutor BEFORE the trial date.

Death Race 2000 should be an essential watch by all citizens. It was a staple for us teenage boys when it came out in '75.

To this day, I still categorize bad judgment by pedestrians by the points that would be awarded to the driver.
