Re: Unnecessary Noise Section 75 (4)
It will never cease to amaze me that insurance companies can raise rates due to a charge that results in NO physical or property damage and has no risk of triggering an insurance claim.
There are many insurance companies who will forgive this one minor piece-of-crap ticket. Call around to lots of places and don't forget to give TD Auto the ...

Have (3) stories...
1) An old high school girlfriend has a 17yr. old son who was side-by-side against 2 other cars on a very wide industrial road on the edge of town (slow cars, just being goofy really). Coppers swooped in and stopped one car, who then commenced to squeal on the other two. All three impounded and charged under 172.

They will likely honor your request for a trial even if you are way past the 15-days (personal experience). Sign "not-guilty" on the ticket and get in in right away.

Re: lift laws, bumper height laws, headlight height laws
The bumper height varies even from model to model on trucks leaving the factory, so I don't think altered vehicle/bumper height is regulated. As long as they meet the no-damage at (5kph maybe??) rule, then you're good to go. Call the Ministry of Transportation for info.

Yeah, and what IF they stopped under the overpass, just prior to the ground units sitting on the "get-on-ramp" then what?
Hmmmm... good point!
Or what if the vehicle was on "cruise control" and person was sitting in the back   then what?

Now that would be silly :?

Seems to me the officer suspects you accelerated to jump out and pass the jerk who just cut in on your lane, but you clipped his left corner. Otherwise, I don't see his point. If you can refute his claim, by all means, go to trial. But be very certain of your theory as Careless caries a pretty stiff penalty and is quickly recognized by insurance ...

1) Have the officer amend the charge back to stunt driving
Not going to happen.
2) Losing the trial and not receiving a plea-bargain
Likely. Your admission to guilt at roadside is very difficult to overcome. A pleasant attitude towards the prosecutor before court (and a convincingly sad story to him) and you just MIGHT get that 15-over deal ...

My own recent experience:
- make photo copy of both sides of ticket for your records.
- Plead Not Guilty on ticket (check off "officer present for questioning")
- take ticket (or registered mail) to court address as shown on ticket
- lay on couch and watch TV for several weeks until court date arrives in mail.

If more than one car end up in the picture, I'll bet neither will get a ticket. Just wait and see what comes in the mail.
P.S. Don't start questioning your driving ability until you start having accidents. Tickets are just paper. Wrecks are the real problem.

No. Don't plead guilty. Plead Not-Guilty and check "officer to be present" on the back of your ticket. Take it to the court house at address on ticket (make a copy for your records) and wait for a court date.
