Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h

To my understanding of Dangerous Driving, speed alone is not enough, there has to be other factors involved, but I could be wrong

The R. v. MK decision said basically that excessive speed alone could be called dangerous driving.

Re: Speeding 106km/hr in a 80km/h zone

The wrong time probably won't get it thrown out right away, but it will really weaken the Crown's case because it damages the officer's credibility. The Prosecutor may just drop the charge rather than risk losing in court, depending on the Prosecutor.

You said the officer was oncoming. How close were the other cars on the road to you? Also, did ...

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h

Imagine if Heidi Fischer were one of the officers that stopped the guy for going 250. That would be funny.

Driver: "Hey, before you tow my car, I just have to ask... can you park it next to the car that you got impounded last month? I mean... could I get a photo with it, or something?" Yeah... don't think that would go over too well, but it would ...

Re: how to best handle multiple minor tickets

As for the "interfere with traffic" charge, how far back from the STOP sign did you stop and turn on your hazard lights?

one night i drive home down a small community side road in malvern, Toronto.

Anyone driving at night in Malvern is going to attract unwanted attention. Heck, that's the bad part of Scarborough. I should know ...

Re: New OPP Vehicles?

Our local police forces such as Guelph police or Toronto Police service allowed to patrol 400 series highways???

If they want to, yes. Toronto usually just uses the 400-Series to get from point A to point B, but unless they're Traffic Services, they don't pull people over unless the person is really driving like a sociopath. York Regional Police ...

Re: So what...it's only 5km/hr more

Interesting data on the weight/braking/stopping. Clears up a few things! :)

As far as the risk of a cyclist being fatally injured goes, I think I have the data somewhere, I'll see if I can find it. I can't imagine it being that dissimilar to the risk for pedestrians. Most of the information on the risk-of-death-versus-type-of-collision came from ...

Re: So what...it's only 5km/hr more

Good work with the calculations, racer. :D

One more variable to add. Let's say a cargo van weighing, oh, say, 6000 pounds is travelling 60 km/h. What would his stopping distance be compared to a Civic/Corolla/Cavalier that weighs half as much, but is going 80 km/h?

Also... couple of other things to mention...
You have a 50% chance of being ...

Re: Use of 'centre' lane

Actually driving home after midnight for the past couple of weeks (I work in a weird industry), the electronic signs on the DVP have said in big block letters:

KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS.

I was stunned to see exactly those words used, too, but, there it was. If only they'd use it everywhere... Even Cam Woolley admits that Ontario (the GTA ...

Re: Definition of 'highway'

The definition has come to mean is the area property line to property line, as far as defining a highway. Most of the HTA offences, such as section 128 (speeding), section 130 (careless driving) and section 172  specify in their definitions that the offence (in so many words) is only applicable if it occurs on a highway. Private property is ...

Re: 32 over reduced to 15 over

They do not realize on a daily basis "police are looking for speeders" where majority of drivers don't look for the police, by the time they realize it that is a police car, they have already been clocked, then brake.....then look at their speedometer.....and it is always...."when I saw the officer".

Sorta like the thought process of many ...

Re: Virginia has a $3000 (USD) speeding ticket...

I should add that going 85 MPH or faster in Virginia, which is roughly 135 km/h, is usually a jail sentence. Usually they send you to the county jail for a week. Go too fast and the officer won't bother with a ticket, he'll just slap the cuffs on you and impound the car until you've made bail. They are very strict about traffic laws there ...
