On a side note here....if you ever get a chance to watch "Jet Stream" series on Discovery channel, do so...it's all the factors a CF18 pilot has to go through to get their "F18" wings

"Jet Stream" is a good show. The highlight is that the pilots have received substantial training and the equipment is much more sophisticated and reliable than ...

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h

Some people never learn to walk without bumping into things. :D Or, for that matter, drive without bumping into things. I think a lot of the people simply do not have the aptitude to operate a motor vehicle, many of the people on CWD being an example. (By that, I'm not referring to Bookm.) They couldn't drive a nail. Take, for example ...

Re: Criminal Code Section 39 re impounding of Car

I'm not familiar with how a challenge works - if successful, does it completely strike 172 from the HTA?

Could go any number of ways. Complete removal is unlikely, but the courts could rule that the impoundment is unconstitutional and strike just that portion, or they could remove the upfront license suspension as well. The offence itself may ...

Disclosure package is something you have to request from the Prosecutor's office. It is where you get to see all of the Crown's evidence against you, in this case mainly the officer's notes. Here is an explanation:

My guess is that you got charged somewhere in Scarborough. For the trial, the ...

I know he was just trying to save 30 or so seconds but is his action legal?

Legal, yeah. Safe... well, I think we know the answer to that. Anyway, he's probably one of the dozens of pinheads who I encounter on the DVP every day during stop-and-go traffic: Pinhead is in right lane. Pinhead pulls onto off-ramp or on-ramp, passes 10 or 15 cars ...

Re: Criminal Code Section 39 re impounding of Car

My understanding is that a charter challenge is being painstakingly put together against s. 172. It's never a quick process. We haven't had too many updates on its progress but the law is being fought on precisely those grounds.

Re: 19km/h over reduced from 35km/h over

If you intend to plead it down to 15 km/h over (no demerit points), most insurance companies will just let it go, as Bookm said. Your insurance company sounds a little more uptight about minor traffic offences. Start shopping around a couple of weeks prior to your meeting with the Prosecutor, then switch insurance companies before the ticket gets ...

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h

If the Concorde had shredded that tire, and the tire did not hit the wing, would it have lost control and ended up on its side? Could the same be said about a car?

A blown tire on a takeoff likely will not, on its own, cause a crash. Neither will an engine failure if the crew handles it properly. A "V1 cut" (engine failure while on the runway ...

Re: I KNEW IT!!...

radar identified you seem to know your roads.

I get around the city. As to your question regarding why the 400 is fast... my take is that the 400 is fast because it is a wide road, it is straight, the sightlines are good, and most of the people who use it on a regular basis are long-distance commuters who get stuck in traffic jams regularly ...

Re: I KNEW IT!!...

People on the QEW and 400 know that the police can't reasonably set up a speed trap in safety so they floor it. Good example on the QEW is right near the Burlington Skyway: No police, no place they could set up, so people go as fast as they want. 150 km/h is still fairly common there. And the 400... good luck ever slowing that road down. :shock ...

Re: High-speed crash on Allen - your opinions, news.

At the point where the crash occurred, Allen is a controlled-access multi-lane divided highway, speed limit 80 km/h. A little ways north of there it starts to become a regular surface street.

The Gardiner Expressway, like the Don Valley Parkway, is patrolled by the Toronto Police.

Re: High-speed crash on Allen - your opinions, news.

This guy really covered a lot of mileage. Either he was so drunk he didn't realize that he was going off the road, or he must've been going well over 200 km/h. Or both.

Allen Road where the crash occurred is separated by an extremely wide, hilly median, so it would've taken a lot of speed to go across it without stopping, not to mention crossing ...

For one when it comes to following to close. IMO i dont think this is a necessary law.

I'm going to agree with Squishy here. When you tailgate, you are placing yourself at the mercy of the person you are tailgating. The closer you are to a vehicle in front of you, the more it occupies your field of vision, so there is no way to detect and react ...

Also parts of the 401 (example: east of McCowan) during certain times the road is moving quickly. Don Valley Parking Lot south of Bloor/Bayview exit also moves fairly fast outside of normal rush hour times. The 400, though... holy cow... it's like the Autofragginbahn.

Re: Was this ticket improperly written?

I agree with Reflections.

Looks like you'll have to find another way of fighting this one. The only things that will invalidate the ticket are things like missing date, missing offence location, missing defendant name, things like that. Doesn't sound like any of the things on your ticket are a "fatal" error.

As for location, they could write ...

Do you think McGuinty cares who's going to pay for it, thankfully he won't be around and he knows it!

If compensation is ordered to people who had their cars towed under 172, they'll likely either hit the police budget or something else that Ontarians can't afford to have diminished in order to pay. And depending on how quickly the challenges ...
