Re: GPS

One thing that helps GPS accuracy is ensuring that the antenna has a clear view of the sky. While the GPS won't be 100% accurate because Precise Positioning Service is only available to the US military, basically the more satellites it can see, the more accurate the position. When it's in a car, even if it is on the dashboard, it won't be able to ...

Re: First Ticket - Fighting it - Need help!

If the light was/has turned, time to complete your movement to avoid obstructing traffic.

Why would an evasive manoeuvres not have to be completed safely?

I agree, Bear. I'm trying to get a better understanding of why she felt backing up was the best course of action at the time as opposed to something else, and how she got into that position ...

Re: First Ticket - Fighting it - Need help!

Some of the other regular posters on this board will probably have more/better information than I do.

You said you had to back up. Were you attempting to make a turn in an intersection and had to back up to avoid obstructing traffic? Was it an evasive maneuver?

The best thing to do is request disclosure and find out what notes the officer has ...

Re: Street racing?

Well said, Proper1. A lot of people I know who are opposed to this law have never driven at excessive speeds, raced another vehicle or done anything of the sort. A couple of them regularly drive the speed limit or just below it. Whether you've done anything wrong or not doesn't matter under this law. On top of that, some tow operators have been ...

Re: Not HTA. Disclosure question

Oh well...

Then again my former co-worker says he was ticketed, literally, 10 feet from a sign and managed to plead down to something less.

Co-Worker: "Where does it say I can't drink in the park?"
Ranger: "Over there." (Pointing to the sign 10 feet from him.)

Were there signs posted saying that alcohol was prohibited?

If there is some sign or notice that alcohol is not permitted, that's one thing, but...

Re: A open letter!

That was a good post and you make most of my points.

Thanks. I also tried looking for the specific reference about the car-crushing but couldn't find it, so I was going strictly off memory. Now that you've mentioned it... I also remember Michael Bryant saying somewhere that they think they could crush the car before a conviction is entered ...

Re: A open letter!

So either way, the police broke the law it seems.

I don't think they did. If I recall correctly, the car-crushing came after a conviction was entered against both drivers and it was ordered by a judge. The drivers were convicted of Dangerous Driving (criminal charge) and their vehicles were forfeited to the Crown. To send a message, they ...

Re: rule for distance behind another vehicle

My initial driving training (Young Drivers of Canada) said to leave a 2 second following distance when on a regular street and 3 seconds on a highway/freeway. In slippery conditions, increase it to 6. That was a LONG time ago, though. Again, not a law or anything, just a driving practice.

I leave a good gap between myself and the vehicle in front ...

Re: Ticket going 45 over - instead of 15

The TPS Traffic Services were running LIDAR at Logan earlier today. Seems like a productive spot for them.

Do you know if the officer got you with radar or lidar?

Get disclosure and see if the officer's notes have details about how far away you were when he took the speed reading. That information would be very telling.

Re: Section 172 the illegal legislation governing street racing

I understand and appreciate the frustration, mindset on some people's part about how the law was written, however, put the blame game on the correct people who put the law into place, not my fellow brothers and sisters out doing our jobs.

Here's food for thought: Did anyone who is vehemently opposed to this law vote Liberal in the last ...

What side street was the cop on? If he was at the intersection I'm thinking of, like Bel said, you would've been on the Gardiner and not in a 60 zone when he took the speed reading.

Charge as normal at roadside....go to court.....when conviction registered 30 day suspension on 1st offence and $2000, 90 day on 2nd offence and $5000, 1yr on 3rd offence and $10000.
Sounds fair to me! At least, for stunt driving...

Re: Street racing?

The whole law is wrong!

For the 229 people who had their charges dropped or were found not guilty, a poster on another message board summed it up best: Let's say we waited until after the court date. You're found NOT guilty, therefore we are going to seize and impound your vehicle for 7 days and suspend your licence, at your expense. Make ...
