More weird driving

You know anything about this one, bear?

http://www.windsorstar.com/news/Wrong+driver+travels+kilometres/1530738/story.html

I'd think she'd either have to be severely impaired or suffering a serious medical condition to drive 27 kilometres ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE 401. I can't imagine someone being so stupid that they'd actually... oh ...

How to stop a pursuit

This happened a couple of years ago, but still... Looks like an effective way to stop a pursuit.

Re: Improper Right Turn - Do I have a strong case?

Just make sure you clarify to the Prosecutor that you are not trying to plead guilty to something like Green Arrow - Fail to Proceed as Directed, which also has two demerit points and is a $110 fine. Actually... come to think of it... it's better to call the Prosecutor and ask to work out a deal, but don't specify what you want to plead to. Ask ...

Re: Ban the Cell Phones Law

What's so different about a phone call that keeps our brains from processing other information?

Part of your brain during a phone conversation dedicates itself to forming a mental quasi-image of the person you are talking to. Ever notice how you might be hand-gesturing while talking on the phone even though the person can't see you?

What if ...

Re: Improper Right Turn - Do I have a strong case?

First Attendance: Usually this will be offered to you depending on where you live. You can negotiate with the Prosecutor to plead guilty to a lesser offence, which means a lower fine and probably no demerit points. Some Prosecutors just want to get any guilty plea if possible, so they'll take a municipal infraction; others play hardball. One ...

Re: Ban the Cell Phones Law

One interesting thing was the low altitude warning was a woman's voice. An Air Force study found that fighter pilots responded better to a woman's voice than a man's.

Most of the aural warnings on fighter jets are a woman's voice. They call her "Bitching Betty." I'm not kidding, either. Maybe cars should come equipped with that... but I'm sure ...

Re: Ban the Cell Phones Law

When I was in university, my Cognitive Psychology professor talked about his research on human multitasking and the ability to do things like drive and talk on the cellphone at the same time. This is basically what he said (this is going back a few years): Our brains have a limited ability to process things simultaneously. People talk about ...

Classic example: stop vehicle with daytime running lights. (DRL)

Not surprised with that story. On my drive home tonight I saw three vehicles with only their daytime running lights on. They were also driving under the posted speed limit. "I'm safe because I obey the speed limit." Yeah... okay...

Also last week watched the Toronto Police set ...

Has that further study happened yet? Maybe you can dig that out from where you got the above.

Not to my knowledge, BUT here's a report showing the collision trends in Saskatchewan, including the period before and after they raised the limits to 110.

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?

I can't remember if it was the NHTSA or the SAE that did studies on raising speed limits, and concluded that raising limits on city streets had little effect, while raising highway speed limits would raise the speed of traffic flow equally. Based on their studies, raising the limit from 100 km/h to 110 km/h would not result in everyone finally ...

Finally start giving people convicted of criminal offences the maximum amounts and no early release.

The way I see it... personally I support capital punishment in certain cases... if someone commits an act of first-degree murder, they shouldn't be given ANY chance of parole. Certain other offences should warrant life in the slammer, none of ...

The failure of democracy is that those people have the same say as a person who takes the time to become familiar with the issues and can fully comprehend the consequences of the vote and what their elected representatives stand for.

Unfortunately.

However, you strike me as the kind of person who would dig beyond the sound bytes and headlines ...

Reflections and FiReSTaRT have already given you good advice so I'll just add my 2 cents. Whether you hire a paralegal or a lawyer, definitely get professional assistance with this one. Well that part of the Gardiner can get pretty nasty and the guy should have probably been nailed with careless.

He definitely deserved a big ticket. 186 near Islington/Kipling on the Gardiner is a little crazy. But something that is even nuttier than that is, oh, I don't know... not buckling your kids up!!!

My take on it is that common sense and common courtesy can't be legislated no matter how much the fiberals try. Those come under the headings of "education" and "parenting."

No argument here. Dalton & Co are so concerned about a few sporadic cases of people being irresponsible that they'll eliminate any opportunity for younger people to be ...

As for replacing the Crown Vics, I heard the new traffic enforcement vehicles were going to consist of a mix of Porsche 911s and Ferrari F-40s. The Cessna 206 currently in use for aerial surveillance will be replaced by a Bombardier Global Express jet retrofitted with modified AWACS capable of detecting speeding vehicles up to 300 kilometres away ...

If anything, the vehicle's repeated presence, idling, in the same location every day is unusual and if it were up to me, I'd call the Peel Police. Use this number: 905-453-3311 (non-emergency # for Peel).

That being the case, more of the officers that were on duty were patrolling the 401, much more so than normal. Counted nine along the 401 on Sunday, whereas normally there are only two.

If the MTO says stay in the right hand lane, which makes more sense than the centre, I will start doing that from now on in 3 lane or more, instead of centre.

Re: Fines - Laser Detectors & Laser Jammers

So again, why do we, Ontario, have the safest roads in North America if we all can't drive?

Since you asked for it... Safest roads by definition meant fewest fatalities per vehicle kilometre or per licensed driver. Some reasons:

* Ontario has vast swaths of uninhabited areas, but most of us live in cities. Urban areas have lower fatality rates ...

That's an unusual one. I'd fight it. Make sure you get a full disclosure request in, which would include the officer's notes, an explanation and clarification of the charge, and also request a copy of the collision report. If the other driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving and was going northbound in the southbound lanes, I'd say ...

Hey RadarIdentified was that along there on the 401 this sunday afternoon.

I was on the 401 Sunday afternoon, but the stretch where I was in the right lane while everyone else was duking it out in the middle and left lanes was in Essex County. From about Cambridge all the way to TO it was a goat rodeo.

Whenever one is there, all they have to ...

In quebec do they tow your car aswell?

Not for the first offence. They have the authority to issue an immediate 7-day roadside license suspension in Quebec. However, if you get caught a ...

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...

I think the concrete barriers are great on the 400-Series in the GTA. Probably has saved quite a few lives.

Several years ago the 427 had those metal W-barriers that we've still got on much of the QEW. A truck had a catastrophic steering failure, crashed through the barrier and into oncoming traffic. It slammed head-on into a car, killing the ...
