The simplest way I can put it is, "Faster than the lane to your right, slower than the lane to your left."
Makes the most sense to me, otherwise we're turning the highway into a Grand Slalom of sorts, with more lane changes/tailgating/etc. Although I will say that driving from Windsor back to Toronto last weekend, after clearing the construction ...

Re: Fines - Laser Detectors & Laser Jammers
Pfftt... radar detector. Who needs one?
Just keep a good lookout and 99.5% of the time you'll see the police before they even think about aiming a radar or lidar at you. I've found that eyesight works better than radar detectors anyway.

Re: checking the ticket
Wrong licence plate is not a fatal error on the ticket. Either the fine amount has to be incorrect or there must be something missing, such as the date or your name, or you are charged with an "offence not known to law," such as "Speeding 50 km/h in an 86 km/h zone." There are other ways to beat the ticket or get it reduced, though.

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...
Radar it amazes me that people do things that stupid without even thinking like doing a uturn in front of a transport.
People just don't think when they're driving "hey, if I make a big mistake, or someone else makes a big mistake and I don't take evasive action, I could die. " Another example was the woman here in Toronto who was chatting on ...

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse
So your saying this guy was driving like a North American, and claimed to be king of the world, and hit the horse and took off because he intentionally hit the horse?
If the article is correct, then yes. The p/u driver crashed into the horse and rider, mortally wounded the horse and seriously injured the rider. Even if that was accidental, the ...

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...
Similar car vs. truck collision happened near Peterborough last summer. Young woman made a sudden U-turn in front of a transport truck, everyone in the car died. I don't know if basic survival instincts have been dulled over time, but I can't help but wonder why so many people just impulsively do things without looking and verifying that the action ...

Re: passing emergency vehicle
The best option with this sort of ticket is the route of a plea-bargain to a reduced charge. Not knowing about this being the law will not gain any sympathy from a Justice of the Peace. It is the law in most US states and Canadian provinces. In some US states you can serve jail time for it. The only defence for not moving over is that it was ...

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse
What kinda street do you live on? If it's a major street like Eglinton or Hurontario, you can't expect for people to do 40km/h just because people are crossing the street with their kids. That's why we have traffic lights with marked pedestrian crossings.
Victoria Park Avenue (four lanes, lots of traffic). Sorry, maybe my wording led you to ...

Re: Should I fight my 15km/h over speeding ticket?
If I bring it to court, is it possible for them to charge me with careless driving?
Possible, but unlikely. They'd have to do a lot of paperwork to make it happen and it really isn't worth it. Also, the standard for proving careless driving is very high. Drifting or meandering a little bit is usually not enough.

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse
Horses are permitted on the roads, and they are governed by the HTA. Some sections specifically mention them, like section 148(2):
Every person in charge of a vehicle or on horseback on a highway who is overtaken by a vehicle or equestrian travelling at a greater speed shall turn out to the right and allow the overtaking vehicle or equestrian to ...

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...
First of all (not that I had any doubt that you would, but still) good job in responding ASAP to the crash. Sounds like a stupid comment to make, but I've seen enough people literally drive by crashes without doing anything. Or worse, I stopped at a collision, got out to help the injured, and had someone roll down his windows: "Wow, that looks like ...

Federal Police? (RCMP,MP,CBSA)

Re: Power and Status
That makes things very interesting, in a bad way. I had mistakenly believed by reading your initial post that you had passed a police officer (which wasn't the case). The good news is, careless driving is one of the hardest HTA charges to prove, so the Crown has an uphill battle. Just out of curiosity, how did you become aware of the fact that a ...
