Re: Zero Tolerance for 1st 5 years of driving...
Now, here is what you would like to hear. Give a real road test to drivers, young and old, new and seasoned say every three, four years. We'll give special consideration to them there police officers, 5 years. Now we can hand out insurance premiums based on ability and number of KM driven....wait that makes sense so the gov't would never go for it ...

Re: Turn right on red against green arrow indication
However, could a car in the right lane expect to only obey the light on the right, assuming in this case that it has no arrow indication?
Because the red light on the right side would, theoretically, according to section 144 (10) apply, then I think they're not "facing" a green arrow "in their respective lane."
But I think viper1 raises a ...

Correct, 0% BAC for anyone 21 or under. This particular issue already generated quite a bit of discussion here:

Re: Turn right on red against green arrow indication
On the four-indication traffic lights, the top three still apply to through lanes.
Section 144 has to be tied for the worst-worded section of the Highway Traffic Act. As for not having a traffic light for each lane, let's take a major intersection with three lanes in each direction and a left turning lane. There are two red/amber/green ...

Or do all signals facing you apply to you?
Always thought that they put up the traffic lights so that they directed specific lanes to do specific things. Otherwise, why not just put up one light at each intersection instead of two lights for two lanes?

WAIT! You're in the right lane, facing a circular red indication for that lane, because each lane has its own signal, correct?

Your insurance company will bring your rates up for three years following most HTA convictions.
As for the sign not being bilingual, this has consistently proven to be the "default" strategy for fighting "disobey sign" in many parts of Ontario. I'd do the leg work before your attempt to plea bargain with the Crown, meaning set up your trial date ...

I agree with Reflections.
Pleading guilty to a lesser charge should work if you're concerned about the level of the fine and demerit points. If you want to fight this charge, there are some other ways to go about it, though. As for the First Attendance, as much as possible try to convince the Prosecutor that you're trying to save the court's time ...

Couple of things about your ticket. As it was a red light camera offence, there will not be any demerit points and your insurance rates will not be affected if you pay, as you are being charged as the vehicle owner.

If you were charged with "disobey sign," it's beatable. I know the area. Is this the Tim Horton's that is adjacent to a Mac's and across the street from Petro-Canada? If so, I don't recall any "no left" turns. First and foremost, send the ticket in with the "not guilty" option checked off and set up a trial. Go back and take photographs of the ...

Out of curiosity, since it was a speed trap and there were two officers on site at the time even though only the one issued the ticket do both have to show in court if I can't get this bargained down?

I drove by Allen & Eglinton today. Zyrynx is right, there is no sign indicating no turn. I also noticed that it was either all full green or full red, since it's the end of the Allen Expressway. Did your brother stop his vehicle and talk to the other driver at the site of the incident? I was not 100% sure. If they stopped, did they exchange information? Worse in terms of people who don't know how to drive? I live in Scarborough, I'd say that about 70% of the drivers who live in this part of the city have absolutely no clue about anything related to driving. I don't know if Brampton is worse but I'd say they ...

If I recall correctly, the sign isn't above the light, it's on the right side of the road as you approach the traffic light at Eglinton. You're right in that bilingual defence won't work in this case. Would be worth driving by, however, and seeing if the sign is posted on the right side of the road, adjacent to the right lane. If there's nothing ...
