When his OPP career is over, which might be within a year or two, Fantino's put his name in the hat to run for the Mayor of Vaughan. I'm not kidding, either. Wonder how much of a chance he has. It's the same municipality that elected Michael DiBiase, who crashed his car while ...

I.E. AIG made some bad investments and needs a bail-out.
AIG did more than that. They were underwriting a lot of the subprime mortgages and other high-risk things that the Wall Street "experts" were hyping as good ways to make money. They weren't strictly an insurance company, in that they had several divisions in addition to their insurance ...

I'm all for that. Railways are safer and more fuel-efficient.

Unless there was a significant amount of blowing dust or sand (and I mean a LOT), the radar equipment would not be affected. Wind alone does not affect radar.

For Pete's sake, which clown came up with the idea of using a taxi as a ghost car?
What's next? A ghost car masquerading as a Tim Horton's delivery truck? Maybe they can get a cement mixer or a transit bus and deck it out with the light package.

You are actually insuring yourself against liability, along with repair/replacement costs if you have collision coverage.
That's the key thing. Before I got a new car, I simply took liability without collision coverage. When I lived in the US, I took a fairly high liability coverage, because the second you get in a fender-bender there's going ...

Re: carless driving charge
Depends on the provider. Your vehicle had a mechanical malfunction, you made a reasonable effort to avoid any collision, you're paying out of your own pocket, and you did not get convicted. So, 90% of insurance companies should not give you any increase. Even if they wanted to raise your rates, I think you'd have enough grounds to go to dispute ...

Re: Insurance Issues...
Just my two cents... What happens with your insurance largely depends on your provider. Some of them will, as FiReSTaRT mentioned, raise your rates upon any conviction; others have forgiveness; etc. They can raise your rates if you have not-at-fault collisions, depending on the carrier. The reason being, with Ontario's Direct Compensation insurance ...

Re: SECTION 172? HELP
So you were charged with going 155 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, correct? The officer saved you an immediate licence suspension and vehicle impoundment by using the "old" method. Not saying you're guilty or anything, just that so many vehicles have been seized under 172 that it's good to hear that some officers are still using s. 128 for speeding ...

Re: SECTION 172? HELP
I'm confused. :? What speed were you allegedly doing and what was the speed limit at the time? If you were charged under s. 128 of the Highway Traffic Act, that's different than 172, and different penalties. If you were charged with stunt driving (section 172), you were looking at the immediate loss of your car for 7 days, up to $10 000 in fines ...

Would rather see Chrysler & GM (Ford if it needs it) get restructuring money than any of the financial companies in the US, like AIG, Citibank, Bank of America and the others that performed stunts with other people's money. Re: Farmer Stopped on Road
Might be worthwhile talking to a paralegal about this one. From what you said, the corn bin was on the road and was not illuminated in any way, correct? Since a collision was involved and the officer did not witness it, unless the officer is a collision reconstruction expert, they'll probably need the farmer to go to court in order to get a ...

Couple of questions to ask, just to add to what TC and Bookm are saying... was the officer behind your friend or did the officer wave your friend over (meaning the officer was standing at the side of the road)?
The "failure to sign ownership in ink" charge should be quashed fairly easily. If your friend offered to present the officer with the ...

Which is why I put 'petty' in quotes and why I would love to give out those tickets. From that recent jaywalking case in Colorado, the general public seems to feel that jaywalking is no big deal.

The thought of sending in a certified statement is excellent. Apparently QC does this (anyone confirm?).
Quebec indeed does this, however they do not accept certified documents from the defendant. The defendant has to be present in Quebec, but not the officer.
