Red Light Camera Cash Grab-ONTARIO

Post by Millennialdriver »

I am writing this to inform ontario drivers that with the removal of speeding tickets, the province has found another way to collect their income through Red Light Cameras. I received a $330 ticket for taking a right turn in an intersection on a red light. I did not go through the intersection, did not go into oncoming traffic, did not damage any property nor injure anyone. According to the camera I simply did a rolling stop near a red light camera intersection and took a right turn, instead of completing a complete stop. This led to a $330 ticket. Obviously, I appealed the ticket twice and instead of being presented a judge where I could present my case and hope for a reduction in the fine, i instead was presented with "Hearing Officers that are independently appointed adjudicators with statutorily conferred powers of decision making" that have no ability to reduce the fine. No matter how you present your case, this is a full weight of the law being brought down. This allows the province to use the law by avoiding any interaction with a judge, and forcing drivers to pay the high penalty. If you decide to fight the case further, service ontario advises to get a lawyer which alot of drivers may not be able to afford. The province is putting up red light cameras at every intersection, and will become the easiest cash grab
