I would really appreciate some help here. I'm facing a divorce and have some tough issues. I'm moving back home to my parents after a divorce and my 70 year old father still has a license but doesn't drive, only rents once in a while, what's worse he hasn't owned for 20 years so he's like a new driver. As I understand there is a requirement to have him on my policy but this is absurd because I drive a Ram 3500 which he can't even get in and would never drive. There must be some way around this, I'm not reffering to a scam but more like a legal way around. I hope that I don't have to ask him to cancel his license because that is cruel and I'm reading that in ontario they keep your license for life so to speak so that may not even be possible. I will move out in a year or two when the divorce is final and I'm out of debt, he'd be stuck with no license after this. Please somebody help, I'm going through a divorce and moving to their apartment because I'm already in financial trouble so $2000/yr more for someone to sleep in the same apartment but never drive is really over the top.

I read on a forum once there is some form you can file with your broker to say nobody else will drive it, but unsure of details since the poster didn't say what province he was in. Could have been in BC or something where the ins laws are much better.

You and your father will need to fill out an excluded driver form which can be found here. Hand it off to your insurance provider and let them know you don't want him on the policy. Or you can just ask your insurance provider and they'll get you started. Be aware that once you fill out this form, he can't drive your vehicle under any circumstances. He will be uninsured. Both you and your father can be charged if he decides to borrow your vehicle.

Hi Bend. Thank you for this information, I really appreciate it. I'm disappointed that my broker didn't reveal this information to me. He was ready to take down my fathers license to begin checking him out for my policy. I figured there must be some way around this. I had always thought of a student room mate scenario where many people live in the same house and would all have to be under someone's policy. That just wouldn't work as one person would be paying for 5 people. My father will never drive this truck, he can't even get in without my help and if he needs a ride I will gladly drive him. thanks again Andrew

Hi... I recently got a ticket for disobeying a sign but the sign was a ROAD CLOSED - LOCAL TRAFFIC SIGN. The officer told me that I had disobeyed a posted sign but my argument was that I was local traffic since I was looking for a friend who lived around that area... was actually lost and happened…
Today I was driving towards the intersection Derry Rd. and Creditview Rd in Mississauga. When I enterend the intersection, the traffic light just turned from Green to Amber. It was little bit raining and I judged i can not stopped there. I was driving straight through on amber light then when I got…

I have a question re demerits and insurance. When do these appear? The day I get the ticket or when I pay it? I got a ticket with demerit points last week. If I make any changes to my insurance will they see it on my record before I pay/fight the fine?
So I just left my house and stopped at a STOP sign from my street turning left (it was not an all-way stop). I stopped and checked my right then left and did not see any cars and started my turn. All of a sudden a jeep appeared to the right of me about 3 seconds later driving very close. I…
Bac above zero, g2 driver, 24 hour suspension. Had half a beer and drove 1 hr later. Failed breathalizer. I am in police foundations college course, did i ruin my future career? First offence, otherwise clean.
I got a ticket one day by making an illegal left turn, but police officer give me 2 copies of tickets. one is Certificate of Offence, the other is Offence Notice.
I went to the internet website to pay my ticket on the 15th day of my Offence date, the system still shows that my ticket is not in the…
Two days ago, I was exiting the 401 ramp on the highway and then entered on the highway ramp again. There is no sign indicating that you CANNOT go through? There are lane markings and a sign with the lane marking, and I was in the middle lane with the arrows pointing left and right. so I…
I was driving home in the city, in the centre lane when the van 2 cars ahead hit her brakes hard which made the guy in front of me slam on his brakes and then I slammed on mine. However i was unable to stop in time and hit his car and his car hit her van. We call got out…
I got my first traffic ticket (after two parking tickets out of which one was cleared) after a year of getting my G2 license. I feel fairly confident that I'm not guilty. The officer said that it was a T intersection, and I was bumper to bumper to the car ahead of me. According to him, I should've…
