Re: RIGHT Hand Turn from Middle Lane on Red - Opinions/Facts
As long as you turn right into the proper lane, it looks legal to me. 144(19) allows you to "turn to the right" on a red, no mention of curb-to-curb.

Learn something new here every day. So there is a requirement for commercial vehicles, I'm guessing to simulate an incline and maybe a load.
What would be "light throttle"? What happens if you have a torquey beast of a diesel work truck?

Red light camera tickets don't affect insurance, as you are charged as the vehicle owner, not the vehicle driver.

Re: Defective Braking System: $110
It's a parking brake, or can be 'hand brake' in cars with the hand lever. 'Emergency brake' is an outdated term; they haven't been able to stop a moving vehicle for decades now. They should hold a vehicle in neutral stationary on a hill, and that's about it. Emergency braking can be done by downshifting until first gear, at which speed the parking ...

So did my first patrol tonight. Need to work on note-taking...hard to remember to get a description of both car and driver. Also, it appears to be difficult to write in straight lines in a moving car, in the dark, with an inky gel pen.

Re: driving on multilane highway
I know these lanes and the probem is that the "lane ends" sign is visible before the lane even begins (in fact, the actual end of lane is already visible). During a driving test, move over unless the evaluator tells you not to. During normal driving, I use my judgement - if there are a few cars behind me, I will move over to the right and let them ...

I think "curb line" can mean whatever the officer says it means. His notes, his wording, his definitions.
I would interpret it as the "imaginary line" representing the continuation of the nearest curb of the intersecting highway.

There was no public groups out actively campaigning for sweeping changes (like MADD was re: drunk driving). This was completely devised and implemented by government officials. Ontarian's were duped into believing the result would be an end to competition style street racing and all out ricer duels on the 400.

Re: 142(2) - Start from parked position, not in safety
At a stoplight, no signal is required when proceeding directly forwards. When you are parked at the side of the road, you are considered to "turn" into the rightmost lane when you begin to move. Thus you must signal left when moving from a parked position. Try to pass a driving test without doing so - it won't happen.

Re: 142(2) - Start from parked position, not in safety
1) Never put your car in gear while stopped by an officer, unless you are cleared to do so.
2) Driving no faster than the speeding SUV next to you still means you were speeding.
So three cars were in the right-hand lane, with you in front. Cruiser was in the lane one over to the left (next to either of the cars behind you?). If so, I'm guessing ...

Re: What's the proper procedure to pass a car on a 2 lane road?
I have been driving the speed limit for the past three years, covering about 60,000 km. Aside from tailgaters, I have never had a problem on two-lane roads, nor have I been a safety hazard (and no, I'm not one of those oblivious drivers). Never been flipped the bird, not even a fist shaken in my direction. I did have one trucker honk as he passed ...

Re: lift laws, bumper height laws, headlight height laws
Don't know of any bumper height restrictions in Ontario (they exist in BC and NS, probably more provinces), but your front headlamps must be between 559-1372 mm above the road surface and your rear taillights must be between 380-1830 mm above the road surface, measured from the centre of the housing at vehicle curb mass. This is specified in the ...

"Fail to remain" under the HTA states "accident" not "collision," so I'm not sure what the interpretation of that is.

Only for E-code standards. SAE allows the speedometer to read minus, though most manufacturers have their in-house tolerances.
EDIT: I was partly wrong. I dug up an old post of mine and got the numbers: SAE allows +/-5% (SAE Recommended Practice J1226) and EC allows +10% (ECR-39).
