Re: 149km/h in a 100km/h Zone

Speedometers aren't accurate, especially at speeds of ~140 km/h. Not completely sure, but I think SAE-spec cars (North American and most imports) are allowed +/- 10%, while E-code cars are allowed +5% (some European imports).

HWY12 actually tends to drop below the limit of 80 around Orillia. Don't know why.

HWY11 tends to flow at around 120, 30 above the limit.

Re: Electric cars are a GO in Ontario

It is difficult to adjust the output of nuclear plants, so we likely have a lot of excess power at night that just gets grounded (and will have even more in the future as more nuclear plants go on-line). Given that most people will plug-in at night to charge for the morning commute, especially with the new smart meters, I think we'll have quite a ...

Re: Improper Left Turn

Most likely the insurance company will find you 100% at fault. Even if they go with 50/50, that just helps your deductible - you still get an at-fault collision on your record.

This is separate from the police investigation.

Re: obstruct plate

Of course humans are superior. Thumbs, baby. We grew thumbs, developed language, and made fire. We're the big cheese until we overpopulate and wipe ourselves out with a pandemic. But until then, this also means we have greater responsibility as the "caretakers" of our environment. Dogs, cats, rabbits, and my potatoes have no consitutional rights ...

Re: obstruct plate

Treated fairly, yes, but not equally.

Dogs and cats require licences because the majority of society (at one time) called for it. They are more plentiful, thus have more of an impact on a community should bad owners exist (also why many municipalities have by-laws restricting the number of pets per household). They are larger than most other pets ...

Humans have a bit more reasoning capacity than plants do. Attempting to treat humans, other animals, and plants as equals is (for lack of a better term) crazy hippy-talk.

Re: prohibited right turn $1875?!?

But the court system doesn't provide the service you have an issue with. It would be like complaining to the McDonalds janitor that you were given the wrong order.

You can ask Toronto Transportation Services (they handle all city-maintained roads) to put up a temporary sign or remove some unnecessary visual distractions. That department is a lot ...

Re: prohibited right turn $1875?!?

The JP can't really do anything about roadwork and signage. I've been successful in the past in voicing my concerns to our local Works department, even had my suggestions brought up at an MTO meeting.

Just can't tell them to do something that will cost a chunk of money, as then they ignore you. :x

Re: obstruct plate

Can someone with a JP buddy either confirm or refute this "consent" thing, or at least know of some legal determination supporting either side? I'll admit that, while it sounds fishy to me, I have little knowledge in that part of law (i.e., the "technicalities").

My thought is that simply by entering the province, you have consented to all ...

Re: obstruct plate

Got any case law showing that s. 31 of the HTA has been successfully challenged in any court of law?

The closest thing I can find to your position are a few cases, mostly in the US, but notably R v. Rowland in Alberta, where driving was deemed a "near right" subject to the driver demonstrating competency. That is, you can't be arbitrarily denied a ...

That sounds like something you should talk to Toronto Transportation Services about.

Re: obstruct plate

No one is being harmed simply by my flying through restricted airspace (other than myself after being shot down).

Let's consider the Royal Commission Inquiry into Civil Rights , where chairman James McRuer wrote the following on pp. 730‑31 of Report No. 1, vol. 2:
It might well be that the police should have greater powers to control and ...

 Are there really no roads up to there? I should go exploring someday with the Escape.

Hey! I can demand the government supply me with a plane and flying lessons because I want to travel there. I KNOW MY RIGHTS!

Re: obstruct plate

So I can jump in a plane and fly it around because I have not signed anything to do with a pilot's licence and thus am not bound by any aviation laws?

I can go enter restricted airspace and refuse to be shot down because I do not consent to their laws. We'll see how that goes.

Going along the same subject, how do you feel about road closures due ...
