Re: 149km/h in a 100km/h Zone
Speedometers aren't accurate, especially at speeds of ~140 km/h. Not completely sure, but I think SAE-spec cars (North American and most imports) are allowed +/- 10%, while E-code cars are allowed +5% (some European imports).

HWY12 actually tends to drop below the limit of 80 around Orillia. Don't know why.Reflections wrote:And last time I checked, 110 on HWY 12 around Orillia is not that fast. It's wide open and the sight lines are good. Squishy, correct me if I'm wrong.
HWY11 tends to flow at around 120, 30 above the limit.

It is difficult to adjust the output of nuclear plants, so we likely have a lot of excess power at night that just gets grounded (and will have even more in the future as more nuclear plants go on-line). Given that most people will plug-in at night to charge for the morning commute, especially with the new smart meters, I think we'll have quite a ...

Most likely the insurance company will find you 100% at fault. Even if they go with 50/50, that just helps your deductible - you still get an at-fault collision on your record.

Of course humans are superior. Thumbs, baby. We grew thumbs, developed language, and made fire. We're the big cheese until we overpopulate and wipe ourselves out with a pandemic. But until then, this also means we have greater responsibility as the "caretakers" of our environment. Dogs, cats, rabbits, and my potatoes have no consitutional rights ...

Treated fairly, yes, but not equally.
Dogs and cats require licences because the majority of society (at one time) called for it. The JP can't really do anything about roadwork and signage. I've been successful in the past in voicing my concerns to our local Works department, even had my suggestions brought up at an MTO meeting.
Just can't tell them to do something that will cost a chunk of money, as then they ignore you.

I doubt you are able to withdraw consent as an individual. You may do so as a majority of society, by electing/pressuring goverment that will repeal the unpopular laws. Even a small minority can bring about changes now, with teh interwebs and cable TV, but the individual is still relatively powerless.

The highways can be travelled on foot and on bike, as well as by bus or taxi.
Do you have a quotation of the section you are referring to? The closest thing I can find is our right to mobility under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which do not guarantee the use of highways.

True. Although I don't think many people even know that a valid reason is not needed (I didn't until I just read it on this site) and the officer chose to give a simple reason to avoid conflict.

Technically, you can be pulled over to see if your paper work is in order.
I have heard of cases where the officer says " I pulled you over because your signal was flashing too fast" or similar and the JP tosses the case. Why officers don't just say they were checking documents is beyond me.

I had a similar experience on the 401 almost a month ago. In my case, I did not move as I will not leave my lane for anything unless I can be sure the next lane over is clear. In this case, it wasn't clear 10 seconds ago and I didn't have time to check again, and I was also next to a solid line. Driver hit my passenger quarter panel and took off, I ...
