Re: Highway lane usage
I tend not to follow lane etiquette at all in the 401 collectors - it's just too difficult. If I need to get over to Express, I'm in the left hand following the flow, one of the few times I might get up to 140 km/h. If I need to exit a few ramps down, I try to keep to the centre and drive at whichever speed keeps me with the flow, or keeps me going ...

What did you fail to yield to? You said there were no other vehicles on the road.

And YOU are preparing to become a police officer. If you do not know, how would someone like me know?
I'm not a cop yet, so I'm not familiar with most of the policies. You stated that there were rules against what the off-duty LEO did, so I was wondering what those rules were. If the PSA in fact restricts off-duty officers from initiating a ...

Re: Failing to provide drivers license
I was under the impression that you do not have to pull over right there and then if you cannot identify the police vehicle.
For example: you are driving alone in the middle of the night on an intercounty highway with no lights. Next thing you know a car in front lights up like a cherry XMas tree. No other indication that the car is a police car ...

Insurance companies don't care about points, they care about convictions. Points are for the MTO.

Re: Failing to provide drivers license
I wouldn't want to give my license to an ununiformed LEO. Off duty means that. There are rules against that.
There are? I was under the impression that LEO in Ontario were always "on-duty" (i.e., always had full authority). However, I would also request an on-duty officer if I ever ran into an off-duty officer. There are stories of auxiliary ...

Signs are present on overhead bridges, though don't think they are bilingual in the GTA. I have only seen the "This lane" sign a few times - most of them are overhead.

But "turn to the left" is confusing when you are referring to lane changes.
What are the provisions for painted lane markings for designated lanes? Many times I see no erected signs anywhere, just painted arrows on the ground itself. Valid?

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
There is a police report, which is why I was a bit surprised when the broker said it was under comprehensive. I was pretty much expecting that, but still surprised. Ultimately, I don't think the trucking company will even get a slap on the wrist, as they will just ignore the bill, ignore the collection agency, and then the insurance company will ...

I kind of figured it was a right turning vehicle.
I have been thinking about your scenario. Re: Highway lane usage
Disagree. First I've heard of changing lanes to allow a left-turning vehicle in. You have the right of way, just stick with it. Doing people "favours" tends to just lead to confusion and misinterpretation. I don't even move to allow merging cars onto the highway, save for heavy trucks and cars with trailers - it is their job to accelerate to the ...

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
You will have better luck going after your insurance company to cover it under DCPD, especially since you have the plate number and a police report. Quote them everything you can find on commercial (or even non-commercial) vehicles needing to secure their load while on a highway. Your insurance company will then bill the trucking company, and they ...

Don't forget 148 (2).
You may drive in any lane you wish to use until you are overtaken by another vehicle. At that point you must move to the right at the first safe opportunity. Keep it simple by staying in the right hand lane unless you have to pass.
And before anyone tries to argue the meaning of "overtake," here it is from Merriam-Webster ...

Call your insurance company - if you can confirm that this would go under DCPD coverage, then just file the claim. Settling outside of insurance is just a courtesy when you are 0% at-fault, and my courtesy would be used up if they kept sending me to voicemail.

Going on the officer's option to charge with "fail to remain," would this be considered an accident where fault lies with the truck driver (unsecure load)? If so, no deductible on your end, and rates cannot be affected.

Re: Hydroplane into ditch, careless charge
There was no excuse for that crash. However, a careless conviction may be too harsh (insurance increases) if a lesson has been learned. Good news for you is that careless is sometimes applied when no other charge seems to fit, and I hear the courts have high standards for a conviction.

Alkalines will work well in a camera only if you use it without a flash, or your flash charges with a low current drain. An alkaline's capacity varies based on current drain, so a few repeated high-current flash charges will deplete the battery pretty quickly and eventually make it leak..

I took a look at their battery charger packaging, and it looks exactly like the battery cell packaging. At first I thought it was just a larger "club pack" or something like that.
I think their downfall will be from people stuffing those inside their cameras. They will last about 10 pictures and then leak all over their nice digital camera.

I noticed that Canadian Tire has started carrying Pure Energy rechargeables manufactured in Nova Scotia. Relabled as "Green Earth" or something like that and marketed as a green alternative to NiMHs. No time to check the wording, but this sounds like one of those owner-driver charges where you can be either charged as the vehicle owner (plates reported) or as the vehicle driver (caught in the act by an officer). Red light camera tickets are generally disregarded by insurance companies as you are charged as a vehicle owner, not a driver. The ...

The Bill of Rights is not a constitutional document - does that make a difference?
I don't think Bear was saying that an arbitrary vehicle search was perfectly legal - just that should an arbitrary search be conducted, he would have no problem with it as there is nothing illegal in his car.

The officer can't remove demerits from the charge. If the charge carries demerit points, the MTO will automatically enter them upon conviction - it has nothing to do with the courts or a police service.
