Re: New Member? Come and say Hi and Introduce yourself here! :)

I guess I'm due for an intro post.

I'm 22, living in Orillia, Ontario. I did two years of an engineering degree at the University of Waterloo, but I just couldn't sit at a desk most of the time for the rest of my career. I spent the next two years going to random lectures in different departments, but I was always drawn to law enforcement. I plan ...

Re: Double Talk??

In my opinion, "innocent until proven guilty" is different from finding any loophole to appear innocent - sometimes even after guilt is admitted by that person (not in court, of course).

In my perfect world, the legal system wouldn't be a game where each side tries to "win" the case. If you know you're guilty, just pay the fine. 'Not guilty' pleas ...

Although the "STOP WINGING" button is a little disconcerting. I'm picturing a devil-woman with wings (and not the good, honey garlic kind).

Re: So what...it's only 5km/hr more

I did hear about stability control, along with TMPS, being mandatory. Stability control is different from traction control, in that stability control tries to keep you straight on the road and traction control keeps you from spinning your tires. I like stability control but hate traction control. TC helps a bit with open differentials, but most of ...

Re: H.I.D. Headlight Conversion Kits...

Reflectors are made differently. The main thing about an HID conversion and glare is the cutoff point - E-code headlamp units tend to have sharper cutoffs, as do factory HIDs (that's why most of them look like they're flashing highbeams at you on a bumpy road). The HID bulbs can emit much more light yet limit glare because they reflect pretty much ...

Re: Use of 'centre' lane

I've pretty much given up on following lane etiquette on the 401 collectors. Keep right and soon enough you find yourself exiting the highway.

If I need to be on the collectors for a few more exits, I'm afraid to say I stick to the centre lane. However, I do keep up with traffic. If there's no traffic in front of me, then it's faster than ...

Get a Ferrari so you can go under the truck, movie style.

Well, unless the stupid truck has a barrier on the side. Who does that! :x

If you are not passing, drivers must keep to the right most lane....or be like some states....within minimum speeds in each lane (left and centre)

Really? I like that. Has a charge like that ever been laid and held up in court?

From reading sections 147 and 148(2), I was under the impression that it was legal in Ontario to drive ...

Re: Use of 'centre' lane

In the case of the 400-series highways, are they considered a six-lane highway or a three-lane highway? Does the centre median split the two directions into separate highways? If it is considered a six-lane (or twelve+ inside Toronto) highway, then Section 154 wouldn't apply at all.

I agree that it will likely never be enforced on the 400-series ...

Use of 'centre' lane

I've read several posts here referring to an offence under the HTA for driving in the middle lane on a 400 series highway. I don't remember ever reading anything like that - does anyone know the section?

The closest I can find is Section 154, but that seems to refer to the case where the entire highway is divided into three lanes (i.e., both ...

Re: 68 over ..

The Charger's base police package has the 3.5 L V6, although you can upgrade to the 340 HP 5.7 L V8.

The V6 puts out the same horsepower as the Crown Vic's V8, but the CV likely has a better torque curve. The LX platform is unibody, isn't it? The CV and Tahoe's body-on-frame would hold up better in minor collisions or things like jumping the curb ...

Re: 68 over ..

Isn't the Tahoe faster than a Charger? I think I remember hwybear mentioning that the Tahoe had better acceleration and just slightly less top end speed than a Crown Vic. I have heard from others that the Charger isn't as good as a Crown Vic for catching up after a U-turn.

(This is the V6 Charger. I don't think many services go for the V8.)

Re: Definition of 'highway'

"highway" includes a common and public, highway, street, avenue, parkway, driveway, square, place, bridge, viaduct or trestle, any part of which is intended for or used by the general public for the passage of vehicles and includes the area between the lateral property lines thereof; ("voie publique")
