Rear end collison - minor cosmetic damage - no police report

Unread post by daruki »

I was just involved in a rear end collision. It was very low speed, no damage to my car, but the other car's rear bumper has 2 indents from the plate. The other party was very nice and did not call the police. We exchanged insurance info/license, and went to a collision reporting center. The officer checked it out and said no forms needed to be filled, just have to call our insurance companies.

My question is, if no police report was filed, do i get demerit points for careless driving?

thanks. it was my first accident

No, demerit points are only received when you're convicted of an offence. Since you weren't charged, you can't be convicted. Your insurance company will still deem it an at fault accident however.
