Re: Insurance - Radar Detectors & Laser Jammers

What would an insurance company look upon worse?

A 40 over fine or a stunt driving charge (sec 172, 50 km/hr over)

---
OR
---

Getting caught with a laser jammer/ radar detector.

Insurance - Radar Detectors & Laser Jammers

Does anyone know if an insurance company would increase your rates if you got caught with a radar detector and or laser jammer?

Since a radar detector is 3 points would the company treat this the same as let's say 16-29 over?

Would they even increase your rates?

Getting caught with a radar detector does not mean that you were speeding.

So how ...

Fines - Laser Detectors & Laser Jammers

Does anyone have some info on the fines for these?

I hear a radar detector i 170 $ + 3 demerit points.

I have no idea for a laser jamming device? I Heard rumors it was 5 points and no idea on the fine.

If this officer pulled you over and found a detector and a laser jammer would it be double the fine or how would an officer deal with this?

Re: Insurance Issues...

The guys with unmarked cruisers should try 100 km/h in the right lane. I see so much more *EDIT* now than I did when I was the one doing 160 km/h in the left lane (yes, I used to be one of you :o  ).

Squishy not to be a smart ass but that is a big change.

From going 160 and now you say you are the one who goes 100 in the right lane. Just ...

Haha.

Guys does this taxi have a discounted ride for the 50 over stunt driving charge?

What is the fares for it? Does the more you speed the cheaper the fare and 50 over is a free ride home!

Anyways he doesn't have a spectre in his taxi from the looks.

They must be really desperate for cash. No spectre in an enforcement vehicle as an under ...

Re: Insurance Issues...

Racer good point.

Maybee thats why so many drivers refused to stop throwing their money away then when they get into an accident or a fender bender the company gives them a run around to get the money and will raise your rights.

If this is the case and your scared your rates will climb then most will just pay out of the pocket.

Outside of ...

Re: How long to lay charges?

I think hwybear has given you the advice you need.

I think it depends on the results of his blood. If he was "to far over the limit" and they can conclude that this happened from alcohol they can charge him.

He should call the officer and ask what is happening with the investigation or go to the local station to see.

as hwybear said getting ...

Re: Insurance Issues...

Radar your right.

But the massive payouts these companies make and the regulators that set the rules have a HUGE impact.

The regulators in the province set the minimum coverage/liability. So if they force the companies to cover this it results it massive payouts and people using the system.

As bear said i completely AGREE. Sometimes those ...

To be honest if nothing has happened i think it got put down.

To be honet in my opinoin this is not of priority. If no one was hurt or killed i dont think he is gonna get charged.

Re: Insurance Issues...

No the problem i have with the defacto limits is the officers drive them to.

Also many force around there.

It really bothers me when i see officers casually going 120-130 like everyone else like its okay.

it really bothers me when officers get charged for stunt driving and they get a slap on the wrist when they are not even on patrol, in range ...

Hey Radar Identified if you want to find bear i suggest putting a huge doughnut on your front license plate.

Dam right.

Some people pay more insurance than the car is worth.

The problem is the regulators that set the rules.

They set the amounts that is "minimal etc".

Essentially it is not a free market system at all.

Therefore with these ridiculous claims tons of people are abusing the system, falling false claims, charging way more.

Re: SLOW DOWN - Hwy 401 West of London

Anyways back to Post Topic never speed through Chatam and watch it west of london. The flow of traffic really slows down and when that thing turns into 2 lanes your toast.

I think that has to be some of the most aggressive OPP in the whole province for speed enforcement, unlike those guys that are on 400 sometimes that must be asleep.

I thought ...

Ya no kidding Fire Start.

They have an OPP station right at that intersection at QEW & Hurontario.

A few weeks ago i saw an officer who was using an old on ramp that was down for construction sitting with lidar in the 80 zone. They had a tow truck waiting to.

Some of those expensive european models like bmw's have those installed in the back.

They are so bright it can be distracting.

The same goes for those people that put HID's in a reflector based system.

Ill have to agree with Viper mind you most cops use common sense to.

I mean don't go take a toddler on a motorcycle on a 400 series highway going 50 over the limit.

Does radar also have this kind of range (K / Ka)?
I have seen some officers in some really wild spot's on the 403 and i wonder how they're equipment can sometimes get readings from this kind of distance.

here is a tip although your still breaking the law.

Go into the left lane and immediately put your right turn signal on. That way even if an officer sees you your ...
