Very informative post hwybear thanks.
When you mean at the same time.
Do you refer to clocking 2 at a time from X feet and picking the fastest one or who is gonna get pulled over.
Mind you i had no idea lidar could work past 1200 feet, but how can an officer target a license plate on a crowded 3 lane highway?
I know where you patrol it is alot ...

Re: Misc radar/lidar
I really wonder how much difference vehicle colour actually makes?
I heard that most lidar is effective from starting around 1200 feet it can get a pretty good reading?

Obviously white being the best reflector and black being the worst or hardest to get a reading on.

Re: Speeding ticket, 31km/h over
That sounds wierd.
To me it sounds like a mid to heavy traffic 3 lane highway like 401 in GTA.
He was using radar most likely and was using an option perhaps for fastest vehicle etc?
I always wondered how those work in high traffic. He could have gotten the wrong guy or you could have acclerated a bit. Perhaps he thought you were the fastest one ...

Re: safe highway merge
I know and we complain about those who travel at 151 in the middle of the night with no cars on road.
I know what you mean these people wreak havic. They enter a 400 series highway not even doing 80 km/hr then everyone else has to change lanes at the last second and slam on the brakes cause of them.
This is a big problem and unfortunately i think ...

Re: front license plate position in ontario
As long as the plate on the front of vehicle is visible and more importantly would work if an officer tried to use a lidar on you. This is why it should be on the front. Behind the wind shield would be harder to aim the cross hairs.
A black vehicle with no front plate you'll really anger him

Re: O.P.P criuser impounded under 172
It's the 25th any news? I guess no one cares and it got thrown out.
Shame when we here stories of others doing this it seems such a big deal but it seems Okay if an officer does it regardless of the situation on duty or off duty. I didnt know that having a black and white cruiser with a Fancy LED light bar on the top was a license to speed at any ...

Re: O.P.P criuser impounded under 172
It's the 24th i want to hear what happened and see the real integrity of this system.
This Officer did this by no accident and was not on call or on or in range of duties. After reading that article about crashing into a women going over a hillcrest at 168 i hope she gets it worse.
Anyone hear what happened yet?

Re: O.P.P criuser impounded under 172
Hey hwybear if you wear a tinfoil hat on a 400 series highways i heard you can use it to be warned of any speed traps.
If you got pulled over with one would that also count as a speed measuring warning device. Would you confiscate the hat or impound the person to a mental hospital

Re: O.P.P criuser impounded under 172
By all means to get to an emergency what ever way is the fastest way is the best way. The faster he gets there could mean a live saved.
But an officer just driving or going somewhere not on call so to say or at the end of a shift has no more priority then other traffic on the road.
No he was in the left lane then went in the middle behind a truck ...

Re: O.P.P criuser impounded under 172
But can't you get a ticket for passing on the right aswell?
That whole section is very confusing. The HTA is quite confusing sometimes. If not i believe that 172 defines racing as changing lanes faster then the flow of traffic to advance over the natural or normal flow of traffic.
So this can be interpreted many ways.
Regardless this is the ...

Re: O.P.P criuser impounded under 172
Oh okay so she was a detective-constable not on call and happened to get pulled over by a highway safety division officer doing speed enforcement then the officer called in to see if she was on call or on duty, then decided to give her the ticket?
Interesting though you rarely hear of other officers fining others. Is it still scheduled for march ...

Are they now illegal in florida to i heard something about that....
Virginia has terrible speeding laws.
In ontario how do insurance companies treat it. I beleive the fine 170 $ for the first offence and 3 demerit points?

Hwybear are you west of london where your unit patrolls do they have highway safety divisions there?
Your right though especially in that essex-chatam area i really see it slow down. I rarely go there but usually west of london things tend to slow down.
I noticed in your lidar intercept pic you took it was 2 lanes with a grass median.
Do you ...

Re: Mounting plates
Thanks for clearing that up hwybear and reflections.
I always wondered but it would be my guess that not having a front plate would reduce the officers distance of being able to target you.
hwybear have you ever had to lidar a out of province car with no front plates? Does it really reduce distance that much?
I doubt for radar it would even make ...
