I literally could not remember anything that happened at all between the collision and my exiting from the garage, but there is a chance that I might have hit the Sport button on my car instead of the ECO button. I don't really know if that would make a difference, though. I can't say I know a whole lot about how cars themselves work.

Re: Passing on the right on a one lane street!
Your description of street is very confusing to me. At first I thought you said it was one way, but now you are saying there is a yellow line seperating the directions. So the car traveling in the left lane was on the wrong side of the street?

Vehicle impounded, license suspended (7 day) -- administrative suspension, so not sure of its effect on insurance rates. [/size]
There are no insurance implications on a 7 day administrative suspension.

Re: Wrong Time for Appeal Trial
I got "notice of time and places of hearing of appeal" and the time I got was 2:15AM for March 30th 2016 on the paper sent to me on February 5th 2016. A month later on March 2nd they sent me another letter saying the actual time should be 2:15PM. Is there a way I can use this "error" to postpone the trial?

Re: Radar detector offense
thanks for the thread. I searched ALL ontario laws and YES it is illegal. My defense is or can be that it is hardwired and I cannot remove it in a prudent safe time(?) since I just crossed the border of MI which detectors are free to use?

Don't take this the wrong way, but 95% of this discussion is going to be useless to you.
It won't matter what your opinions on stunt driving are. It doesn't matter whether you think:
- the punishment is unfair or unreasonable
- the sign should be bigger or placed over your head
- whether other people are also speeding and also confused

Re: Improper Mudguards?
Recently I was checking out how insurance companies price their policies, they have added "other minor conviction" to the list, there is no clear explanation what it includes/excludes, so they could hike your rate for something like this, after all it would sort of fall under a moving violation since the car would have to be moving for a back ...

Re: Plead or Request court date? (Worthwhile?)
So, if the other avenues to see the charge go away fail and my court date arrives, being found guilty is apparently obvious, worst case they don't offer me any discount and I pay the full hit then?
If they don't offer you anything, yes you can just plead guilty if that's what you want. They'll make you an offer (if any) and will ask you how you ...

Re: Plead or Request court date? (Worthwhile?)
- Am I correct in assuming that once I request a court date that any hope of having the fine reduced goes out the window?
If there's room to make you an offer, they'll still do it.

Can you add a little more to the discussion rather than copy and pasting the same response everywhere?jsherk wrote:You need to plead not guilty and request a trial with the officer present. Re: Radar detector offense
sorry for reviving this thread as it is also the reason I signed in. Got pulled over crossing Michigan to Ontario because of my radar detector. The OPP apparently has a RDD and even if I was just at speed limit, he confiscated my V1 and gave me cad$ 170.00. I plan to choose option 3 appear in court and have officer appear in court.

It sounds like the driver possibly waited to signal the lights to give you a chance to clear. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Improper Mudguards?
Based on what I have seen and read from other people, early resolution is a waste of time. The reason I say this is because at the early resolution meeting you are expected to take a plea deal, which is basically pleading guilty to a lesser charge,

Re: Improper Mudguards?
This is probably what you'd consider an "officer discretion" ticket. There's no guideline to say what is and isn't effective enough in reducing spray back. At that point it's up to the officer following behind to make that call, similar to a loud exhaust ticket.

Re: No seatbelt/no licence on highway
The officer just has to witness it. If you're asking whether or not he'd have to provide photos or video, the answer is no (unless it's available). He'll likely recount what he saw and that's about it. The same could be said for most tickets discussed here.
