Re: Summoned to court with SERIOUS 3 CHARGES
These are serious charges with the potential to prevent you driving for a long long time (suspension followed by prohibitive insurance rates). I'd suggest formal legal advice and they can work through downgrading of or reduction to the charges. This is too serious for you to handle on your own with anonymous internet help.

On what basis do you think you can fight this? It's a laser ticket and the officer has listed speed, distance and bracketing tests.

oh another point...
IF you DONT WANT the insurance company to increase your fees, here is a thought.
1> lay low and DONT contact your insurance. THEY will run a DMV on you IF they want, sometimes at re-newal, sometimes not.
IF they ASK YOU you must TELL them (only if you get convicted) but if they DONT ASK YOU , the nyou dont need to tell them ...

Why would you communicate with your insurance provider ? Leave it for them to find it out if and when they do a check on renewal. One ticket isn't going to break the bank on a premium and my agency don't increase at all for the first.

We also have the ludicrous situation where, unless you are transferring a vehicle, you never have to get it inspected. In Europe vehicles older that 3 years are inspected every year to make sure they are roadworthy.

Police are trained in pursuit driving. The vast vast vast majority of other drivers have no high speed training. What would you like, a special sticker for people who have taken special training so they can drive faster than everyone else ?

OK. Well you are obviously going ahead with this so keep us posted.
I don't think you have demonstrated any intentional deceit or misconduct on the part of the officer - at best perhaps providing some information that was incorrect about a different agency and that, regardless, you got cleared up right away.

I acknowledge your desire to help but I would suggest his best option is to ask for a reduced fine based on ability to pay. ? think we can agree too that when an officer doesn't know the answer, that he or she shouldn't pretend to know the answer. I'm afraid you're clutching at straws. You say that the officer clearly indicated that he knew the licence was expired at the time of the stop. That's his reason to pull the vehicle over. He would likely have been running random plates and got a hit which precipitated the stop but he then wanted to do a doublecheck or perhaps run the licence ...

It is simply not possible to register that reading 5 hours after a single glass of wine, whatever the quality. You've come to a forum with some extremely experienced police officers who've been dealing with alcohol related investigations for decades. People downplay the amount they drank all the time.

I have to disagree with karra regarding the following too close being as bad as a careless. I'm with cooperators and they showed me the chart that lists major and minor tickets and any minor has the same impact on insurance as any other minor and the same for majors. Careless is a major, follow too close is a minor. While follow too close doesn't ...
