Re: Speeding 22km/h over the posted speed limit.

Well, firstly I have thought of the right hand lane. But the problem with the right hand lane is you will be constantly merging at most interchanges. Since if you see traffic in the acceleration lane of an interchange and you are in the right hand lane, and the lane to the left of you is free, you should merge to that lane to allow the person to ...

Re: Speeding 22km/h over the posted speed limit.

Bear - agreed on all counts but the sensor. The advanced driver training should be enough, and I don't want to pay extra for my car because others can't drive. An additional point should be to have zero tolerance enforcement for all parts of the HTA, not just speeding. Adopt ECE speedometer standards so that under-reporting is not allowed; no need ...

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...

I have mixed feelings about the concrete barriers. A divided roadway with a small forest in between is ideal, but I don't think I've seen any of those in Ontario.

The tall-walls like to bounce cars back into traffic, but they work with a larger range of car sizes and bumper heights. The metal guardrails are a little better at catching vehicles or ...

Re: Bad Drivers?

Lane discipline isn't just about the left lane. The simplest way I can put it is, "Faster than the lane to your right, slower than the lane to your left." If you can get passed by a vehicle on your right, then you are in the wrong lane. It's too bad that this is not part of the HTA. I'd like to have a chat with the guy who felt it necessary to ...

I disagree with that. People around here hit raccoons, turtles, and rabbits for sport. It's doubtful that they would move up to a horse, but there's always that one guy more nutso than the rest.

Re: Improper Right Turn - Do I have a strong case?

As far as I know, a pavement marking is the same as an erected lane designation sign.

Besides, with no signs or marking present, it would still be an improper right turn as then only the right hand lane is the proper turning lane.

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse

Every person in charge of a vehicle or on horseback on a highway who is overtaken by a vehicle or equestrian travelling at a greater speed shall turn out to the right and allow the overtaking vehicle or equestrian to pass.

Maybe both the riders and the driver got confused. In any case, while the law allows for horses to be on the roads, the ...

I beg to differ. :P

Actually if any of you are curious. I tried driving the speed limit last week, i kid you not i stayed there. The silly little guy in the left lane. I was going 99-101 km/hr.

I got passed by everything on more than 4 wheels. I even had a rig with his 4 ways on honking at me ...

You are not required by law to move over unless the lights are on, but common courtesy would be to move over if there is enough room in the centre lane.

Shows just how our speed limits really are too low. Police car going the speed limit is causing a traffic jam. Although... I will say that I've seen quite a few cases where people will just pass the cop car. Asshat of the day award goes to the woman driving a green Civic who backed into the front of our Escort and then tried to Jedi mind-trick me into thinking it never happened.

Only a bit of very faint paint transfer on our already messed up front bumper, so I yelled at her a while and let her go.

I changed my view of society. Instead of seeing it as "The Government" out to screw me over, the more I got into engineering, the more I saw it as a system of parts working together. Each person had a function in this system and rules were necessary for everything to work together without conflict. The more I thought about it, the more I understood ...

My provider is Fido. I bet it's the phone, I'm using a Nokia 6190 from 1998.

I had a sexy quad band flip phone, but the Java interface was too slow for me, especially with the size of my address book. I never got reception underground, though. We relied on pagers in the subway tunnels.

Re: How long to lay charges?

I'm not completely sure, but I don't think there is a limit. Summary conviction offences have a six-month limit, but impaired driving is a hybrid offence and the Crown can choose to prosecute as an indictable offence, which has no limit.

Now, I don't know if there is a certain time frame in practice after which you can assume the officer or the ...

That's another part of the same section. Section 73 (2) deals with the driver's view of the highway, while s. 73 (3) is the other half that deals with persons from the outside looking in. It specifies windows and windshields, so I'm legally in the clear as far as that section goes.

Maybe 'careless driving' if the officer doesn't like the glasses ...

High contrast glasses at night

On unlit streets, I sometimes drive at night wearing high-contrast glasses (you may know them as shooting glasses) to highlight lane markings, shadows, and, during a snowstorm, where the two tire tracks on the road are.

Are there any legal ramifications of doing this? The light transmittance of these amber glasses are around 75%, compared to ...

I thought Careless was a hard charge to make stick. I'm glad you had success with it; if it works for rear fog lights, the charge might be serious enough to spread by word-of-mouth and make a few more people read their owner's manual.

I guess it would be much harder to make stick for those problem front fogs? There are a lot of front fogs that do ...
