Paying more for insurance than your car is worth isn't all that ridiculous. You are actually insuring yourself against liability, along with repair/replacement costs if you have collision coverage.
For an old beater I would skip collision coverage and just stick to the accident coverage. Maybe get comprehensive.

Re: What to do at an intersection where the lights never change
Can you see the sensor buried in the road, or guess where it might be? If so, get some strong magnets from Princess Auto and attach them to the bottom of your bike or the bike trailer.

Re: Insurance Issues...
Hmm...the officer who gave me my last speeding ticket said he lowered it so I wouldn't get in as much trouble with the insurance company. That wasn't true?! Grumble grumble.
How about accidents where you are not at fault? Are they allowed to increase your rates for such claims (or remove a "no-claim discount")?

Re: Research help needed - motorcycle passengers
One of the few memories I have from before I was 5 was riding on the gas tank of my dad's bike. I was allowed to play with the horn when no one else was around. When roads were busy or my mom was around, I sat sandwiched between my parents. The bike was sold around the time I was four, and I raised such a ruckus that my dad borrowed a friend's bike ...

Here's the Jag I was talking about. I was mistaken; it wasn't a post, it was an image I found on Flickr while I was browsing through the "asshat" group.

Re: Fog lights, amirite?
That still doesn't make them rear fog lights in the proper ECE definition. Rear fog lights are red and can be turned on while moving forward. You can call the Grand Am lights auxiliary reverse lights, but they are not rear fog lights.

Re: Farmer Stopped on Road
The lights of this trailer were not on or I would have seen it well before I got to it, but the police officer threatened to charge me with criminal charges and he was going to check a box inside of the cab that would tell him the lights were on and I was going to be in big trouble. I was scared and I told him they were on.

Re: Fog lights, amirite?
I remember reading a post where a Jag with the pair of rear fog lights turned on had only the third centre-mounted brake light to indicate the vehicle was slowing down. If true, that seems like a very bad idea.

Re: Fog lights, amirite?
No, those are...well, reverse lights. ;)
Rear fog lights are red, either one on the driver's side or a pair, and are the same intensity as brake lights. It's good for visibility in real fog, but really burns your eyes when you follow one in clear weather.
On some cars they come on with your front fog lights; others have a separate switch. The ...

Difference between 'O. Reg.' and 'R.R.O. 1990, Reg.'?
On the e-laws site, when I click the plus sign next to the HTA, some articles are titled "R.R.O. 1990, Reg. xxx" and others are titled "O. Reg. xxx/xx". What's the difference? Is there any?

Fog lights, amirite?
Does anyone else get blinded by fog lights on rural roads? I don't seem to have a problem with them on lighted streets, but the badly aimed fog lights or ones with a poor cutoff really get to me when driving the Escort. I just came back from a 20-minute drive, and every single pickup truck had fog lights on, and forced me to focus on the bottom ...

Re: u turn
I measured it out on my map software, and from estimating where the island ends, 150 m brings you to around the entrance of the parking lot for Ellesmere Park (assuming s. 143 refers to straight line of sight). If I remember correctly, trees block some of that visibility, and from the map it looks as if the edge of the building might come into play ...

I can't offer legal advice, but I do know that Costco well. If you need to get back to Warden, you have to take the long way around the parking lot and exit over the speed bumps. If you find yourself at the exit where you can't turn left, you can turn to the right, then take a left at the first T-junction, and you end up at Ellesmere. You can turn ...

Re: 110 in a 80km while passing?
Hold on, s. 148 (7) is only for vehicles unable to turn out. I don't think it would apply in this case unless the vehicle left you less than one half of the roadway free. And if it did apply, then that means if you feel the vehicle overtaking you cannot do it in safety, you must "immediately stop" - not even an option to slow down.

Hey at least Obama is cracking down, telling Chrysler it's not a viable company. Burrrn
Is it true that the "right to bear arms" in the States was to allow for a violent overthrowing of government should they get out of hand? I know I've heard that somewhere.

Re: Disobey Stop Sign...No new stop sign warning posted
I can't find anything that says a "NEW" warning has to be erected for every new sign. Could be just a courtesy, or could be part of some act that I haven't searched yet.
However, you mention that it was tilted to the right. The left edge of the stop sign cannot be more than 4 m away from the edge of the roadway (a shoulder is not part of the ...

There is no speed limit exemption for passing. If the pass cannot be made in safety, you should slow down and go back behind the other car.

That should fall under s. 170 and REG. 604. Section 3 of REG. 604 says you can't encroach on a contiguous parking space for angle parking off the roadway, but it seems that marked parallel parking spots are meaningless.

Crooked parking
The Orillia parking bylaws aren't easily available, but I've checked the Toronto bylaws and can't find anything that says you must park within a marked parking space. Does this mean that those who park crooked across two spaces are breaking no laws? It happens often in the winter, and I can understand those who can't see the lines and park ...

I would have no problem writing tickets for "petty" things like littering or jaywalking
I don't think jaywalking is a "petty" offence. Numerous pedestrians get killed every year when they step off the curb into traffic, and they assume that drivers are just going to stop for them. A pedestrian is no match for a 3000+ pound vehicle. Toronto ...
