Re: Turn right on red against green arrow indication

RI - Now that's a poorly worded section. I'm pretty sure, based on the title "Obeying lane lights," that this is meant to apply to lights which designate a lane for a specific direction or purpose of traffic. Those are the red 'X' or downwards green arrow signals, and maybe there are others which I have never seen.

EDIT: Nevermind, in the ...

Re: Turn right on red against green arrow indication

I just found that post, too.

You still make a distinction between an "indication" and an "arrow indication". I think an "arrow indication" is just a type of "indication", as is a circular indication.

I think you might be onto something with ss. (18). Subsection (14) does not say "despite subsection (18)", so does that mean that all cars must stop ...

Hey TC, I thought you had conceded. Shenanigans!

This tangent has turned into a full-blown topic, so I started a new thread to discuss it.

Turn right on red against green arrow indication

Continued from http://www.ontariohighwaytrafficact.com/topic976.html

Now back to the green arrow tangent. I'm going to take one more stab at it. And yes it's making my brain hurt!

First the Act makes a distinction between a green indication and a green arrow indication. An indication and an arrow indication are different. Keep that in mind. Note ...

So when I drive 80 or 90 km/h on a two-lane highway, I'm being a problem? Oh noes.

In this case, that trucker couldn't move any more to the right. Otherwise, you're right. I hate those who can't seem to keep right; my dad is one of them and I just can't change his mind. He also thinks it's safer to brake during a turn based on his own ...

Re: Allen road and Eglinton Ave. - No right turn on Red Light???

(14) doesn't apply in your case because there is no green arrow.

(19) covers turning right on a red, not (18). If there is no green arrow, you can turn right by treating the red light as a stop sign, unless there are signs posted prohibiting it. If there is no such sign and you properly yielded to pedestrians and traffic facing a green, then I ...

Re: Allen road and Eglinton Ave. - No right turn on Red Light???

I don't think subsection (14) is poorly worded, although mentioning it in subsection (19) isn't completely necessary so maybe that makes (19) poorly worded.

"(14) Every driver approaching a traffic control signal showing one or more green arrow indications only or in combination with a circular red or circular amber indication and facing the ...

Re: Scanners

Back to his question what do you mean by a "scanner"

Like a CB radio or a Radar Detector.

RD's are illegal.

CB radio i believe is not illegal, although not sure if you were listening in on Police.

Police don't use CB. I don't think the CB emergency channel (9) is even monitored anymore, except maybe in remote areas with hiking or skiing ...

Re: Allen road and Eglinton Ave. - No right turn on Red Light???

S. 14 says you don't have to stop if you are going in the direction of the green arrow. If you couldn't do anything else, why would they mention s. 14 under s.19 which is the exemptions? If they had no reference to s. 14 then no you wouldn't be able to make a right on a red unless there was a green arrow pointing right.

No, subsection (14) says ...

Wow, you need a warrant for the black box? Seems a bit weird as manufacturers seem to be able to get access to it without a warrant (e.g., Nissan with the GT-R VDC/Launch Control fiasco).

The Toronto Parking Enforcement guys should get that tripod gizmo. Now they can measure 15 m from the intersection with authoritah! 8)

Re: Scanners

Any scanner capable of receiving non-broadcast digital signals requires a licence from Industry Canada. 'Broadcast' meaning that it was intended for the use of the general public, like non-subscription television signals.

Analog scanners are exempt from licensing requirements, but under the Radiocommunication Act, you cannot divulge or make use of ...

Re: Allen road and Eglinton Ave. - No right turn on Red Light???

Just a side note related but not to this particular situation.

If stopped at a red light, and then a green arrow appears to turn left....no motor vehicle can make a turn to the right while the red is showing.
Just and FYI I don't think I would interpret it that way. Did you experience a ruling recently??

I think a warrant can force the phone companies to give up that information, like Bear describes above. But for a traffic accident? I hear that accident reconstruction isn't even called out unless there is a fatality - this seems like roughly the same amount of manpower, although the hours would be spent on paperwork instead of at the scene with a ...

Rates are low cause no one will steal an Escort and the tank is so small on the Escape you might get to Barrie and have to fill up again..... :D :D :D :D

Hey, Brampton is several times worse than Toronto; I'd say it's worse than Scarborough. There are good parts of Brampton, but WOW some of the areas...I could see this happening.

I had a Bramptonite argue with me on the pronunciation of 'McLaughlin Road' - "But it's 'Sarah Mick-Lock-Lin'!" Sheesh.

Re: Ban the Cell Phones Law

Part of your brain during a phone conversation dedicates itself to forming a mental quasi-image of the person you are talking to. Ever notice how you might be hand-gesturing while talking on the phone even though the person can't see you?

That's always been my hypothesis as well, but then why does the predominant 'reasoning' seem to be that a ...

Hmm. Oh wait, you're allowed to use the phone for emergency services.

I've had plenty of conversations at 160 km/h. There is nowhere near the level of distraction that a phone call presents, handsfree or not. I have read studies that show how it is distracting to us, as mentioned above, but I haven't really found anything that explains why . What ...
