Re: 135 in an 80(construction zone)

nrg70, couple of questions. First, did the officer impound your vehicle? Also, did you happen to get the licence plate of the vehicle that was tailgating you?

As racer said, get a paralegal involved. X-Copper is the website sponsor so they'd be able to help you. These charges have disastrous implications for your insurance and licence. In the ...

Re: Law on Speeding and Radar Textbook

The North American philosophy on driving is that, despite having wide open spaces and, in most cases, lower population density in major cities, we need to slow things down and make people stop as often as possible. Europe, out of necessity, tries to develop roads and systems that keeps traffic moving as much as possible. Not that all of their ideas ...

I'm not sure the lead-acid batteries could power all of that equipment for too long. So they probably have to leave it running. Imagine if the officer was sitting there on battery power, picks up a car going 180 km/h on the LIDAR, then goes to start the car and chase... DOH!

The location on the ticket does not have to be specific. "Dundas St W" is enough. Unfortunately it is not a "fatal error."

Reflections mentions the possible error with the LIDAR. That's one avenue. It really depends on how receptive the JP is to hearing your argument, and how familiar the officer is with the equipment.

Your disclosure request ...

One of the things that stuck in my mind was when Andrew was chewing out Bookm on CWD. Bookm says he has never been in an at-fault crash, so I still remember this one quote:

"If I were you, I'd be wondering how many accidents I left in my wake."
Or something like that. Translation: "I don't have any hard evidence that you have driven beyond your ...

Enforcement action (namely a lawsuit) on a copyright would really only be taken if a person photocopied it and then sold it, distributed it to others, or passed it off as his own. That Sergeant needed to be pulled from the road. The vehicle impoundment idea was nothing other than a gleeful attempt to show "those God-damn street racers" that "we're gonna get you." Then they went after everyone except the real street racers and, in this case, looks like that guy went after anyone he wanted to. Now there are allegations of him ...

Their roads are *EDIT*, and in the two years I lived in Detroit I blew three tires, wrecked my suspension and even cracked an axle. Granted, it was an older car, but driving on some roads (Michigan Avenue, I-696, the Lodge Freeway until they re-paved it, etc) was like getting thrown in a paint shaker. People have literally blown airbags going over ...

That would be an understatement. Don't get me wrong, there are some things to like about Detroit, and I actually got out and visited many of them when I lived there, but it is such a violent city that it boggles the mind. Granted, they are more civilized when driving - but that's it. They usually ...

The LIDAR test I'm not familiar with so I really can't say. What we really need are some internal diagrams of the device (and more info about the synthesizer). In that context: Zilch. The problem is that if the legislation was worded "unless stopped" people would, upon receiving a text message or cellphone call, simply stop in the middle of the road to answer it or reply to it. If they worded it "unless stopped at a red light," then it would get even more complicated, because people would just continue ...

Re: Radar / Lidar - Accuracy In Rain&Snow

In precipitation, radar signals are subject to signal attenuation - the simplest definition meaning it loses its range. Radar works by sending out a radio signal from the antenna. When it strikes an object, the portion of the signal that hits the object is reflected back to the antenna. Since the radar signal travels at a fixed speed (speed of ...

Request disclosure as soon as possible. It can take 6-8 weeks in Toronto for a disclosure package to be put together. One of the objectives with disclosure is actually not to get it (or part of it, as neo333 was saying), because that opens the door for you to file an application for a stay. Don't specifically ask for the by-law, just an ...

If a police officer in Ontario, no matter which agency employs him or her, sees an offence anywhere in Ontario, the officer has full authority to issue a ticket, make an arrest, etc. An Ottawa Police officer could issue a ticket in Sudbury, a North Bay officer a ticket in Windsor, etc. York Regional Police regularly make traffic stops on the 404 ...
