Re: Lidar - Multiple User Testing
Usually, lidar guns are not affected by power lines, but I don't have one and can not testify in a scientific manner.
No disagreement here, I was thinking of ideas that defendants may try in court. I agree that lidar shouldn't be affected by power lines. Radar, depending on how much insulation/shielding the wires have, strength of the line ...

Re: Lidar - Multiple User Testing
I think that what Radar Identified was getting at was that if Officer "A" tags a car then Officer "B" tags a car, was there time to run the test(s) in between and does the test by one officer count as the testing by the second officer, i.e. If Officer "A" tests after he stops a car can Officer "B" use that test, in his notes, as his before the ...

Conversely...
On Sunday, Halton Regional Police clocked a GMC pickup truck going 168 km/h in a 60 km/h zone in Burlington. (Think it was Appleby Line.) He was a G2 driver and was also charged with stunt driving.

When you do something that stupid you deserve to be clobbered. I hope he liked the cab fare back to the Detroit area. I also wonder what his reaction was when he was told he was going to lose his car for the next seven days.
He'll get an additional $200 fee from Michigan for driving without proof of insurance, and $600 for the demerit ...

Were there multiple officers using the same lidar device or just one? This makes a difference (care and control of the device). If several officers were using the same device, did they each test it before and after each person was stopped? Did anything happen to the device during the time it was used by the other officers? If there were multiple ...

Re: bumping the back of a cop's wife's car = careless driving
My fine was $320. That was the total payable. That is on my ticket, and on my notice from the court (telling me when to show up etc). Why is this a bigger deal than I think? What else could happen?
$325 is the correct total payable for careless driving. Your ticket looks like it has a "fatal flaw." There may be an exception due to the fact ...

Careless Driving fine = $260 + $60 victim surcharge + $5 court fee = $325.00

Milena - is the fine on the ticket that was issued to you $325 or $320? This is a bigger deal than you might think.

Re: bumping the back of a cop's wife's car = careless driving
3) The accident was caused by my inattention, it was a stupid mistake. Can I really be charged with careless driving?
You can be charged with careless driving but a conviction is a different matter. The opinion of the courts is that any average driver will make mistakes from time to time, some of which may result in collisions. Careless driving ...

Motorcycle Safety
Just a reminder to everyone (although I'm sure all of our regular members are attentive and skilled enough that this isn't necessary to say) to drive safely around motorcycles. Give them space, don't tailgate, don't cut them off, and look for them before proceeding through a STOP sign or turning. I'm saying this because:

TPS is starting to get really ornery with left lane hogs on the Don Valley Parkway. I've seen three pulled over in the last four weeks. :D

My two cents: You can request disclosure ASAP. The Crown has an obligation to disclose the information to your girlfriend. The sooner, the better, in my view. There are some cases where it is better to wait to request disclosure, but in this case I'd recommend requesting it now. One of the objectives with disclosure is actually not to get it, that ...

I've tried to understand where this burgeoning nanny-state mentality is coming from. Then I read this article in the Toronto Star.

Could this whole phenomenon/mentality of "helicopter parenting," where parents obsessively hover over everything their kids do, have been a contributing factor to the ...
