The unit cannot be user calibrated.
That is done when assembled.
In my 22 years using various radar devices, whether an officer can articulate or not, these instruments are extremely reliable and I never get readings that don't coincide with my observations.

Re: motorcycle handlebar laws
The plate has to be mounted on the rearward most portion of the frame and visible at 180 degrees. By placing it at the side (for arguments sake, the left side) as you pass people, your tire blocks the view of your plate.

I would argue the crown is part of the identifiers of the plate...the eagle is drastically different, while it might not confuse an officer, the officer may be able to articulate that it might confuse a civilian and thus obstructing the IDENTITY (territory of issue) of the plate.
Function over style, my friend...
Land the eagle...why risk $110.

And so far as putting a note on a computer record...those records only last 72hrs...
So if an officer in Toronto runs a plate, all that I'll see if I run it here is if it's been run in the past 72 hrs.
I see no problem with an officer running plates, not with 265,000 suspended drivers in Ontario, they should be running everything all the time ...

Personal phone call?
There's no right to a personal phone call...never heard of that before...
And despite what some people think, police know better than to believe people, I've been lied to thousands of times in my career...
I can think of 25 times I've had a flat out denial by somebody backed up by their alibi...then I show them the videotape ...

Scary Situation
A few days back, on patrol, I stopped a car going the other way for his dark window tint. I couldn't see in and we all know this is rather common.
My spider sense was tingling and there was radio traffic, so rather than book off, I immediately went to driver's window.
The driver was hunched over the passenger seat with the glovebox open...I ...

Agreed, you can go up to the maximum to pass slow traffic, not 30 over to pass the guy doing the limit.

Forced to speed?
That's hilarious...I wouldn't try that in court, unless you have Sandra Bullock with you and photos of the bus and the bomb strapped underneath it!
Sorry man, but forced to speed made me burst out loud...

Re: RED LIGHT CAMERA OFFENCE
Not so...red lights are absolute liability offences. If it is heavy rain, snow etc...you are REQUIRED to adjust your driving speed so that you can stop. The evidence is indisputable from the photos, but there are extenuating circumstances such as weather conditions (heavy rain).
So many people blame the roads, if the roads are bad..slow down!

You are correct. Your insurance might take a dim view of an unlicensed person operating your vehicle regardless of the location however.

Re: Visual estimation of speed from the side, inaccurate?
I've had lots of success with this...giving a side view speed estimate is a little harder to be accurate to within 5 km/h let's say, but there's a huge difference between 0 and 30 km/h.

Might be better to prepare a series of drawings so that you can provide the court and the prosecution copies, court would likely want a copy filed as evidence.

If the front car tried to stop, you should have been able too.
Seems like you are in a pickle.
Clean record = go to court and ask prosecutor for a DISOBEY LANE LIGHT.

Option 2 or 3 are gambles. Don't be gambling.
Option 1 is appropriate, but wanting the names addresses occupation & criminal record of who?

In my experience, if the ticket is received after 7 days from the date of issue, the provincial offences office has it quashed. They won't even process it.

The time to get specific answers to question is cross examination.
As for the officers notes, abbreviations are his notes, that's what you get.
I highly doubt you'll get a stay.
Be prepared for trial.
