So i'm a tow truck operator whom is contracted to CAA and i drive a heno flatbed. I was pulled over today for disobeying the "No trucks" sign. To my knowledge tow truck operators are exempt from this sign because we are considered service vehicles. Especially if the vehicle we're about to drop off or pick up is located on such streets. When i told the officer i should not be getting a ticket due to tow truck drivers being exempt. He kept on rambling about how my truck is 5 tonnes. The Brampton bylaw regarding heavy trucks also has an exemption for trucks that are dropping off or picking up on a street that has a no truck sign. However, this only applies if you are actively engaged in a pick up or delivery on that street. If you were just driving down there on the way to somewhere else then you would need to show that there was literally no other way to get to where you were picking up or dropping off your load, otherwise you would be in violation. I figured pleading not guilty is the same as saying it was signed which is stupid. A friend of mine told me I could plead guilty with explanation and try to get the fine reduced when I come in.
