Re: Demerit points?

I just got a ticket for "Unnecessary noise" while I accelerated from a traffic light and my tires made noise :S (Kitchener, Ontario area).
I didn't know this was eligible for a ticket! I got a $110 ticket, I'm okay to pay it, but does this ticket have implication on demerit points and insurance?
Should I appeal against it?
Thanks.

Re: Legality of Aircraft for Speeding

On that tangent, what will happen to the law when self-driven vehicles based on dGPS technology come out? 8)

The legislature will debate on it until the end of parliamentary session, then on the next session they will decide that it is not safe enough (just like electric cars), despite data from elsewhere. Someone then will bring up the issue ...

At a minimum, there should also be a copy of by-law that had that sign put up there .

Re: police officers have been told to issue more traffic tickets

Looks like courts will get swamped there...

Seriously though, cops write more tickets to get more revenue -> more people contest their tickets -> more overtime for the cops -> even less revenue ends up being there to fight more important stuff, like drive-by shootings.

Did the cop specify that you were riding a cycle on the ticket? Sometimes they forget, and the points end up going on the record.

Re: Failure to stop for a school bus

Fail to stop for a school bus is a serious offense. Definitely take lower charge if offered. However, your arguing point with the prosecutor is not getting that disclosure on time.

Re: Electric cars are a GO in Ontario

OPG reports generating 11285 MW of power right now. Electricity consumption is about 40% at nighttime, but let's just say we have 10% of that energy output to power E-cars, over 5 hours. That is 642500 KWh available (check the math Squishy:)), enough to power up 106 000 of Tesla Roadster vehicles (these have 53 KWh batteries). Or 350 000 of 16 KWh ...

Re: Electric cars are a GO in Ontario

OPG, producer of about 70% of all power in Ontario reports a generating mix of 45% nuclear, 34% hydroelectric and 22% fossil-fuelled electricity.

Also, the fossil power plants are currently operating at 1214 MW generation, while having the capacity of 8177 MW. Therefore they can simply increase production at those, given that nuclear plants are ...

Running the yellow is an offence. If you described the situation correctly, you should not be at fault. Can you check if the stopped driver can/will give evidence?

Re: 144(9) - Carlaw and Lakeshore

Is it advisable to ask for disclosure - and pursue a stay? What are the chances that the prosecutor will plea-bargain with me and give me a "by-law infraction"?

A few friends have advised that I just get a paralegal - although it's just a 144(9), they mentioned that prosecutors want to keep their numbers of convictions up high. What would the ...
