Re: Demerit points?

I just got a ticket for "Unnecessary noise" while I accelerated from a traffic light and my tires made noise :S (Kitchener, Ontario area).
I didn't know this was eligible for a ticket! I got a $110 ticket, I'm okay to pay it, but does this ticket have implication on demerit points and insurance?
Should I appeal against it?
Thanks.

On that tangent, what will happen to the law when self-driven vehicles based on dGPS technology come out? 8)

The legislature will debate on it until the end of parliamentary session, then on the next session they will decide that it is not safe enough (just like electric cars), despite data from elsewhere. Someone then will bring up the issue ...

Re: police officers have been told to issue more traffic tickets

Looks like courts will get swamped there...

Seriously though, cops write more tickets to get more revenue -> more people contest their tickets -> more overtime for the cops -> even less revenue ends up being there to fight more important stuff, like drive-by shootings.

Did the cop specify that you were riding a cycle on the ticket? Sometimes they forget, and the points end up going on the record.

Fail to stop for a school bus is a serious offense. Definitely take lower charge if offered. However, your arguing point with the prosecutor is not getting that disclosure on time.

Re: Electric cars are a GO in Ontario

OPG reports generating 11285 MW of power right now. Electricity consumption is about 40% at nighttime, but let's just say we have 10% of that energy output to power E-cars, over 5 hours. That is 642500 KWh available (check the math Squishy:)), enough to power up 106 000 of Tesla Roadster vehicles (these have 53 KWh batteries). Or 350 000 of 16 KWh ...

Re: Electric cars are a GO in Ontario

OPG, producer of about 70% of all power in Ontario reports a generating mix of 45% nuclear, 34% hydroelectric and 22% fossil-fuelled electricity.

Also, the fossil power plants are currently operating at 1214 MW generation, while having the capacity of 8177 MW. Therefore they can simply increase production at those, given that nuclear plants are ...

Re: 144(9) - Carlaw and Lakeshore

Is it advisable to ask for disclosure - and pursue a stay? What are the chances that the prosecutor will plea-bargain with me and give me a "by-law infraction"?

A few friends have advised that I just get a paralegal - although it's just a 144(9), they mentioned that prosecutors want to keep their numbers of convictions up high. What would the ...

So, just to clarify some things here

This was your 1-st appearance in court regarding this ticket.

Is the 1-st appearance 1.5 years after you received the ticket, or is it the date of your new court appearance?

Did you tell the JP that you never received any letters from prosecutor saying that your package was ready for pick-up? Imagine not ...

Re: failure to properly wear seatbelt

These tickets are tough to beat. You could plea the ticket down to something else (by-law infraction?), or get a paralegal. Fill out the form at the bottom of the page to get a quote from a paralegal company.

Send your ticket to court with "trial" option checked off. You can bring it yourself. Just make a photocopy for your records. After you ...

Guelph, Edinburgh at College

Edinburgh at College, Guelph

Mostly afternoons

Speed traps move to enforce the speed limit on Edinburgh or College. Generally, I see a cop either on College Ave. East of the intersection, or a trap just North of the intersection on Edinburgh. When I talked to the officer, he said that they were primarily targeting those going 70 or over (speed ...

Electric cars are a GO in Ontario

Finally, the Ontario government had warmed up to the idea of allowing the use of electric cars and plug-in hybrids on our roads. The province will also provide rebates between $4 000 and $10 000. The rebate, which will start on July 1st, 2010, will cover any and all electric cars capable of driving on a (400-series) highway, which excludes Zenn ...

Given this is your first ticket, the prosecutor might just give you a by-law infraction instead, which will be a fine but no demerits. Your ticket does carry 2 demerit points. Fight the ticket, wait times in Toronto are almost a year, the officer wasn't kidding.

Re: HTA 144 (9) - Time issue

I would suggest waiting for the trial date to arrive. Do not hurry the proceedings in any way, keep your options open for 11B. File a 2-nd request with registered mail after you receive the trial date, indicate that this is a 2-nd request, can't hurt you. Trial date should have been set sooner, but this works in her favour anyway.

Although it ...

Re: State Trooper Loses it On Parademic Ambulance Driver!

Looking at it closely, the ambulance was only in the way for a few seconds. It did pull over. The reason it didn't pull over initially was because there was a car on the shoulder. The call that the officer was going to was not a priority. He didn't even get out of his cruiser when he arrived at the call scene.

The car on the shoulder.....was in ...

Well, for one, increased insurance premiums of $200 per month or more are much harder to pay over a while than shelling out a few hundred for the representation, never mind the actual ticket that you won't have to pay. Since the court will be a few months away, might as well save up for representation.

Looks like "fail to stop at the stop sign ...
