Re: Jim Kenzie on truck Speed limiters
I did some searching, but I couldn't find the European country I learned the use of a left-turn signal from. I did find Ottawa's guidlines, which are simiar to mine except they recommend no signals while entering if you intend to go straight (180 degrees).

Re: Nice Traffic Enforcement Vehicles
People do it to "stand out" at car shows. It's really quite pointless to me - along with blue or green turn signals. Seriously, WTF?

Re: High-speed crash on Allen - your opinions, news.
Do you think that more than simple speed was involved in the crash?
Lack of driver skill and/or mechanical failure. It could also be argued that a lack of driver skill resulted in a speed too fast for the road.
It seems to me like it would take a huge amount of momentum to cross oncoming lanes and then roll up an embankment, leaving a trail of ...

Re: I KNEW IT!!...
People have NO LANE discipline in Ontario. Once we have this you can do that.
I absolutely agree and that's why I said to study the German licensing system. The problem is that the HTA does not specifically address lane discipline as it would apply to a 6-lane highway. Sections 147 and 148 (I think those are the ones) say that a) you must move ...

Re: Jim Kenzie on truck Speed limiters
Does the HTA address how to use roundabouts? I have found nothing specific in the last few years. I don't think most people here even know how to use a multi-lane roundabout.
I love roundabouts and the Waterloo region has a lot of them. I'm not sure how to use them properly, though. I use the right hand lane and signal right if I am turning off at ...

Re: Double Talk??
Left lane hogs =. Agreed. On the odd time that I do ever make it to the left lane and run into them, I turn on my left blinker and flash my highbeams instead of tailgating. I learned this from some European country's customs, most likely Germany. I have had about 80% success in getting them over, about the same as when I was younger and ...

Re: Nice Traffic Enforcement Vehicles
It's not that hard to re-create a normal cruiser, either. I used to work at a sign shop and I could make and apply all the decals for an "all-white" OPP cruiser in less than a day. The black-and-white would take a few days more for the spray paint to dry.
I think the stealth vehicles should be some model other than a standard cruiser. They may not ...

I am not talking about a one-lane street - there isn't really any "lane discipline" to apply to that.
My previous post was about four-lane city streets (two in each direction) up to the six+ lane 400-series highways.

Re: Double Talk??
I disagree that the only reason someone follows too close is because someone else violates lane discipline. I take lane discipline beyond what the HTA requires - keep right except to pass, no passing on the right, follow the flow of traffic in all but the right hand lane; if no traffic is in front of me, then I travel faster than vehicles to the ...

Do you remember the vehicle involved? My cousin did something similar - turning right on a red, and the car behind didn't like how long he was stopped. Honked at cousin, cousin overreacted and gave it too much gas. His 4Runner did a few circles, hopped a grass median, and ended up on someone's lawn. He had two worn tires in the back ...

Re: I KNEW IT!!...
Probably a good idea for the roads based on the general level of driver education, but that screws over all the street-legal cars that participate in sanctioned races. It'll be too complicated and likely too expensive to put in something like the GT-R limiter that gets turned off when the GPS hits a race track.

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h
Okay, thank you for clarifying. That said, I don't think too many people are driving more than 50 km/h over the speed limit just because they feel the law is not valid. Many of them were just speedy drivers before the law came into effect, and they continue to be so. However, when 172 is struck down, all of the acts that are stunt driving/racing ...

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h
I agree that the roadside suspension and impoundment are too harsh and probably do violate our Charter (not a lawyer so I can't be 100% sure) - the way 172 is set up, it seems to assume that officers don't make mistakes and never let personal feelings influence things. But violating 172 anyways and then trying to get the cases dismissed is the ...

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h
And that's the problem with people disregarding this law just because they don't agree with it. If you continue to violate 172, then a lot more valid cases will make it to court. The lies/mistakes will get lost in all the cases that do result in a conviction. If people stayed within the law and then pointed out, "Hey, most of these 172 tickets don ...

The HTA defines it as intentionally losing traction while turning. I'd say intentionally doing so on a public road is dangerous.

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h
Looks like the proposal for 172 was purely to address racing, not speeding/stunting. Maybe the media shouldn't get the blame - but it's stupid how people want to argue semantics. Trying to argue that, "There was only one car! How can that be RACING?!" as if that would get the charge thrown out.

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h
I found some Pirelli winter tires that were W-rated. I can't imagine they would be any good in real winter conditions, but at least this shows that there is a remote chance that the driver had tires rated for the speeds he reached.

What's the highest speed rating you can get a set of snow tires in? V?
Hopefully it wasn't some off-brand tire like Champiro - in which case he probably traded death for a license suspension.

On any public road, if you are a danger to yourself, you are a danger to others.
I would like to see any 12-year-old get up to 250 km/h. A car at those speeds will not travel straight on its own. You are making a few minute corrections on the steering wheel every second, which some people do without even realising it. Aside from potholes, I have ...
