Re: Volunteer/'civilian' positions within OPP?
So I would need to get PREP and first aid, but once past the initial interview, the background checks and psych evals would go a lot quicker than a regular application? The training in Orillia is no problem for me, as those buildings are just across the street from General Headquarters - a 15 minute walk from where I live.

Re: Volunteer/'civilian' positions within OPP?
I thought the auxiliary applications took just as long as a regular constable application (i.e., a year or more) except you weren't required to go to OPC and didn't get a firearm. Am I mixing that up with the Cadet program?

Volunteer/'civilian' positions within OPP?
Are there any volunteer positions that exist within an OPP detachment? I've been trying to get a job as an auto shop tech for the last few months, but with that industry in the pits, I'm not having any luck. I've been thinking of volunteering for something with the downtown Orillia detachment or at General Headquarters - are there any positions ...

Re: Lidar - Multiple User Testing
Would that matter if the unit passed tests before and after running the radar/lidar trap? A unit going haywire for a brief moment yet passing tests before and after the offence has the same possibility of happening to one operator as it does to several different operators.

Ah, forgot about that.
Then how about the car doing 5 over the limit in the left lane, while cars pass on the right at 10 over the limit? I'm just curious if there is an appropriate charge that has held up in court, seeing as that car in the left lane is already over the speed limit.

Re: Halton "TAXI"
Do you bother them if they are going, say, 105 km/h while the centre lane is going 110 km/h? They're not passing anyone, but are still above the limit. The right-hand lane is likely going the same 105 km/h or faster, which technically includes the left-lane bastard in the flow of traffic, so there goes 147 (1). Would 148 (2), the 'vehicles ...

Re: So many questions...HELP!
Demerit points have nothing to do with how insurance companies calculate your rates, so you don't have to worry about that. They treat all speeding tickets under 49 km/h over the same way. There are only a handful of convictions that they count as 'major' (speeding under 49 km/h over is 'minor,' more than 49 km/h over is 'major') which will cause ...

Re: MPP (PC Leader Candidate) wants speed limit Increased
But that's less than ideal. You're basically looking the other way while someone breaks the law. Limits should be raised to the design of the road itself, then photo radar brought in with a 10% tolerance for speedometer error. Once the speed limit truly represents a safety ceiling, let drivers judge for themselves what speeds the conditions, their ...

There doesn't need to be a line. If there is no line, you stop before the crosswalk. If there is no crosswalk, you stop before the intersection.

I also toss in a short form code sheet with my notes....so if the person wants they can go thru and write out the big picture themself.
That works, too. As long as there is some way to allow the defendant to understand what the notes mean instead of guessing at the codes. For instance, someone might interpret "PSD BLU VN 82 KM" as meaning ...

Re: Police Notes
I agree with most of you guys. If disclosure is requested, I think the notes should be typed up and the short forms and code expanded to something meaningful. No need for grammatically correct sentences, but "PSD BLU VN 82KM" could be expanded to "Passed blue van, 82 km/h" (I think that's what it means). Things like "(disp, ram, rom, dsp p, t , spd ...

As far as I know, Richmond Hill is a separate municipality and what applies in Vaughn would be irrelevant in Richmond Hill.
Try contacting the by-law department of the Town of Richmond Hill.

Also, here is Richmond Hill's fire route bylaw:

Didn't the article mention that he was charged with driving without insurance? I thought that carried a minimum $10K fine all on its own, with the JP having the discretion to drop it a bit if your sob story is good enough.

For the most part, a "fire route" applies to the entire roadway. However, each city maintains it's own fire route bylaw, and some require signs on both sides under certain conditions.

Is this a normal fill-in-the-blank ticket, or one that came from one of those handheld or mobile printers? The ones that are fully printed (no writing on the part of the officer) may not require a signature.

Re: Smart things to do in front of police officers
An old auto teacher of mine told us of his run-in with the law at a stop light. This one car of his had front/rear split brake circuits, and he installed a line lock to keep his front brakes on. He had a 'Cuda at one point, but I don't think this was with that car. Stopped at a red light, the car beside him revs their engine. He flips on the line ...

Re: JP rules - HTA172 violates the charter
The confusion with this whole 'keep right except to pass' thing is at least partly because, as far as I know, we have no straightforward law that says simply keep right except to pass . We have two separate laws that just barely hint at keeping right, one of which is based on a questionable interpretation of a law seemingly meant to allow cars to ...
