Re: Goat show on the QEW
There's no doubt that there had been flooding on that part of the QEW (and in Hamilton - they had some pictures showing just how bad it got on the Weather Network), but what I'm puzzled over is by the time I got to that part of the QEW, not only had it dried, but they had re-opened the on-ramps, yet kept forcing traffic to the off-ramps in exactly ...

I forgot one piece of the puzzle: On-ramp had those EDR Road Closed gates but they opened them just as I entered the off-ramp.
The MTO/OPP vehicles stayed in place on the road even as they opened the on-ramp gates.

Re: Electric cars are a GO in Ontario
Point taken. It was unfair to swipe everybody in Toronto with the same coal-tar brush. Plug-in electric cars (in Ontario) do essentially run on coal, and they are not, today, of much use outside the province's biggest cities, so I let myself get carried away on my own rhetorical tide. Sorry.

Why do you think that people in Toronto don't share similar concerns about more coal-fired power plants?

Didn't learn the first time
A Cadillac, called in for speeding excessively (205 km/h) and slaloming in and out of traffic on the eastbound 401 in Essex County, crashed just as it entered the Chatham area this morning.
It wasn't the first time he was caught doing 205. He was clocked doing the same speed back in March.

Goat show on the QEW
Sunday afternoon, just after those nasty thunderstorms ripped across the GTA, I was trying to drive home on the Toronto-bound QEW from Niagara. (Spent the weekend doing a wine tour.)
Anyway, right around the 78-km marker, traffic backs up and stops. Turns out, QEW had flooded near the Centennial Parkway, at least when the whole disasterpiece got ...

Bookm gave you some good advice here. Photographs may or may not help, but be aware of the following:
- Have the originals and the camera that took them
- Take the photographs yourself
- After taking photos, have a real photo shop do the prints (e.g. Black's)
- If using digital camera, have the original data card, CD of the prints and the prints ...

Re: 15km over ticket, need some advice
The officer is wrong about putting the charge back up to 30 over. They can't just automatically do it. They could file a motion withdrawing the 15-over charge, and re-issue a 30-over charge, but that's a LOT of paperwork.
The cop knocked it down and gave you a warning on the insurance charge. That was nice of him. Personally, just to give the ...

Difference is use of public roads and paying for the maintenance, snow clearing, upkeep, policing and provision of emergency services to them. If it is not a registered vehicle, it cannot be driven on a public road - see my lengthy post under "obstruct plate." You can bike and walk for free, but driving a car is more or less pay-for-use.

Are you currently in Ontario? If so, you have consented to being governed by the Highway Traffic Act, among other laws. If you don't want to be subject to the HTA, you can withdraw your "consent" by leaving the province.
Can you please explain where you got the idea that an act is not a law?

If somebody can correct me, please do, but I don't think any (?) US jurisdiction allows its police to conduct random "spot checks" of drivers simply because they are on that road at that time.

in my opinion, I don't mind the judge or the prosecutor want to do a similar assessment but the key point is this assessment must be done before the trial starts and the decision shall be given to me in advance.

Trying to flee an accident scene where a police officer was involved is even more stupid.
It's amazing. I don't know if it's some kind of basic instinct overriding common sense but a lot of people, when they get in to a collision, they take off like a bat out of hell.

So the answer is you cannot be charged with failing to signal if no other vehicles are in the area that could be effected by my lack of signals.
Well to be technically accurate, you can be charged with it, but a conviction is a different matter. Think you're looking for section 142 (1) of the Highway Traffic Act:
Signal for left or right turn ...

Re: plaincloths officer stopped me for not checking
As a female, this concerns me. I would not stop for an unmarked (as in Jeep, for instance) plainclothed *individual* attempting to pull me over. I would use a cellphone to call 911 or go to the nearest populated area or police station for my own safety. If I cannot readily identify that the person attempting to pull me over is a police officer, I ...

Yep. Prosecutor should withdraw the charge, unless he/she is a top-calibre dingbat.
I'd probably do kinda what you had in mind: Show up early, go to the Prosecutor, and ask: "Are you going to withdraw the charge?" Then if they said "no," I'd politely ask them if they're familiar with London v. Young, tell them that they're going to lose, and ask ...

Well, bit of a technical explanation here. They can't amend the charge once the trial starts. They can, however, make a motion to withdraw the "reduced" ticket and replace it with the actual speed. An explanation of why they can't just do it during the trial or have the Justice convict you of something greater is one of those common-law ...

Well he might not show up for trial, but the info I have on the York Regional Police is that they tend to show up about 60% of the time or so. A plea-bargain could save you some dough, and I think you have some room to bargain here. Even if you get convicted, the insecure load doesn't net demerit points. I can't say for sure how it will affect your ...
