Last year I was charged with not stopping at a red light in Toronto and I hit a car, no one was injured, as I am out of town I consulted a lawyer and he advised to fight it out. So I retained him to represent me. I now have a court date on Nov 14 and my lawyer asked for disclosure twice but he did not recieve it. I am kind of concerned as to why my lawyer does not want me to attend court as he says that due to not recieving the disclosure either I will be acquitted or he will adjourn the case , incase of adjourment he will then be in a position to do a special motion for unreasonable delay. So do I or do not attend court. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks Wah

There is no requirement for you to attend if you have representation. Maybe you need a different lawyer if you don't trust the one who's currently representing you.

My son had an illegal turn ticket being handled and was also asked to stay away.I had some concerns about this persons advice and i attended court to check on the proceedings---which was more than he did.Thats right--he was a no-show.I was forced to represent and thankfully the officer also was a no-show. Unless your lawyer gives you a very good reason for you not being there---you are the one paying him and its your ass on the line---so i would definitely be there.Thats the ONLY way you will know what the heck happened. This is not just a ticket but an accident resulted which is way more serious--IF U CAN ATTEND COURT, YOU SHOULD.
