Re: Cop suspended with Pay, HTA 172

Are any tests done for lidar?

Do you guys test on a regular basis?

Like have 2-3 officers drive by in marked cars and test various devices to see if they all get same speed and if that matches the car?

But then what ensures the speed in the police interceptor is also accurate?

Only 14 over though no demerit points.

Quite right nice officer indeed.

Although for insurance purposes all moving infractions do add up.

I would say its your choice to take it to court and depends on how your insurer will treat it.

Re: Passing Off Roadway

Wow 8-10 minutes.

What do you do if your following the guys exit comes up?

Would you get off and follow him to his house if it was close?

Wondering cause usually OPP HSD does 400 series highways so if you follow for a few mins calling the plates in, etc. Then what do you do if the person gets off? Follow? Or just make the stop turn the lights on ...

Re: HOV Lanes

Just another thing i noticed today or another reason to hate on these lanes.

people sit in them and then realize the line is solid so they are not allowed to get over for their exit.

So the result if they often cut over going slower then the passing lane with a solid line to get off at their exit.

The 403 for example, you can be in the HOV lane ...

Wow 12 hour shifts! Patience must be thin.

Let's say on a night shift would you actually be on the road the whole time since no court or nothing else to do?

I think R.I will make his next trip in that way around a Tuesday around 9-5 possibly

Very interesting but i wasnt sure if it was just me noticing.

Re: HOV Lanes

Wow Squishy thats almost 175 km/hr. I have seen fast flows of traffic in Ontario but never anything like that, although i have heard stories of that happening in a few places like the QEW near the skyway, and the 401 out around Belleville, Kingston area, i am sure it happens on the 400 a bit to.

Speaking of fast officers. I have never seen that ...

Yep squishy new york state is funny.

When you drive there you look around and wonder why they all drive the speed limit, then youll go in the left lane to pass them, look behind some guy flashing their lights and guess what!!! They're from Ontario to.

But some southern states are very aggressive drivers. Miami i have experienced, i heard LA ...

Agree with you on that squishy. This happens alot.

You get all the trucks in the right lane stuck at 100, or those who drive really slow. So then the capped trucks go into the middle lane trying to pass at like 3 km/hr faster.

Or all the people who hate having to deal with all the people merging into the right lane, as a result people only use ...

From the way I interpret it, she drove onto the paved shoulder before the start of the off-ramp, entered the off-ramp, noticed the officer, and merged back onto the highway for the "move over" law (which, by the way, does not apply unless emergency lights are flashing) - and then the officer waved her and another car over.

I think the officer may ...

Makes alot of sense. Plus why order cars for highway patrol with alloys that would certainly cost alot more and would be hard to justify buying them with citizens tax dollars.

Sorry just for those unaware of the term HOV.

HOV = High Occupancy Vehicle Lane

Basically they are lanes on the left side of the highway (even left of the passing lane) Usually a 4th lane added for vehicles carrying more than 1 passenger and have restricted access so you can only enter / exit the lanes at certain times or markings on the road ...

A good speed there is about 114.4 km/h You know just so the radar wont round it up 8)

Can you add into this thread the spectre R.D.D.

I wonder how much they cost.

Am i wrong in thinking that all officers would have a radar unit, hand held radar, Laser, and a spectre RDD with them in every car.

Although i have heard the laser speed guns cost quite a bit.

I wonder if they have the funding for all this?

I assume spectres must be ...

Re: What's the proper procedure to pass a car on a 2 lane road?

Never pass a crown vic with black wheels.

From experiences and others it is never usually a good idea to pass a police officer and need to exceed the speed limit to do it.

Always check a car, if it has extra antennas, black steel wheels, or anything else that might be a give away such as extra electronic devices in the car a bad idea to pass it.

Ill add to that Bookm, i have talked to a few HSD officer's when they were on break. Most were decent, nice, open minded, and saw things from both ways.

As far as speed limits i like to see what they think. Ill say this though on average alot of them think we could use a higher limit then 100.

Two of them basically told me the same thing.
