Re: Radar / Lidar Units types

In Peel on the QEW i saw a really cool one. It was jet black, had the markings on the back but was kind of ghost imaged. Also had OPP marking but written in a steel grey that was ghosted out.

Looked really bad ass!

Almost every unmarked OPP being built now has the "subdued" markings on them. It is invisible during the day, but all lights up ...

yes, he basic VP does not have that option....but those types were removed from our traffic office about 4 yrs ago.......the one suggested in the thread in question is a directional.

MTO has nothing to do with the equipment we use.

I think all the Ultralytes lidars were phased out, everything else is still in use to the best of my knowledge.

There was some areas testing a new lidar......something like a set of binoculars, but I do not know what brand and have not seen it

Re: What's the proper procedure to pass a car on a 2 lane road?

Never pass a crown vic with black wheels.

From experiences and others it is never usually a good idea to pass a police officer and need to exceed the speed limit to do it.

Always check a car, if it has extra antennas, black steel wheels, or anything else that might be a give away such as extra electronic devices in the car a bad idea to pass it ...

Yep, the officer made the vehicle catch up, made the vehicle increase speed even more to overtake, just to be "in front". Yeah, really suckered him in

I have a 2 lane area as well. We have more crashes on this hwy, compared to the 401 due to intersections and people thinking they need to go faster. The difference of 80-100km is 4 ...

I wasn't going to get another topic off track..

When I've toured thru the GTA on the MC. It is scary as hell in regular lane with all the lane switchers that don't see a big ass HD. Can not even phantom going down the line and reducing my personal safety zone that much more.

Stiratel

What do you thinks would the speeding charge have been? 1-15? 16-29? 30-49?

Were you charged with 23.(5)? Looks like the officer did you a favour by not writing out 2 tickets.

Are you telling me this specific radar has some kind of mode that can only clock cars in one direction (coming towards officer, or going away from officer)

yes

Neo333 hasnt responded but ill assume the reason he used radar is cause he was clocking cars going away from him (radar shooting at rear bumper)
Lidar can also be used on vehicles ...

Unless it the offence is collision related there would not be a 2nd road listed. Another road has nothing to do with the offence.

Would not list a 911 number either as did not occur in a residence.

Now this one is bear and I could see you not wishing to answer this but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask. And, for those cases that didn't see convictions was there any similar strategy to the defense ...

We are trained from day one at OPC in PVO (police vehicle operations). Multi tasking is pretty much the whole course. Maintaining control of the car (skids, braking, turning, speeds), rules of the road, radio, lights, etc.

Once a recruit comes out, they are then placed with a coach officer for further in depth multi-tasking issues radio, phones ...

What all those specs don't tell you is that the unit rounds DOWN and COSINE that is where the plus /minus comes in.

When using properly, if a reading was 77.9km/hr it will round down to 77km/hr.....this is the PLUS reading.

When getting a reading, one can not be directly in front of the vehicle at the same height, therefore a cosine affect comes ...

I may be wrong, but to what I have heard is that tuning forks in themselves are made by using radar.....they keep shaving the metal to the tune of speed "X" on radar.

RADAR / LIDAR are completely accurate in rain/snow.

The only difference is that the range is reduced, so the target vehicle is actually closer.

Some LIDAR have a weather mode for the operator to switch to in rain/snow.

WHY are people driving fast in those conditions anyway, they need to be hammered with tickets. They do not know where the ...

There are other police that people are not acccustomed to. (ie First Nations Police, CN Police, CP Police, Conservation Officers) they also have full authority.

Some that might not have authority are University Police (but they might have been sworn in for a full city)... don't know that answer!

Park Wardens have full authority within parks.
