Re: Speeding 145KM/h - 45KM over in a 100KM zone - York Region

What is your end game?

Your average "ticket fighter" is only going to benefit you so much for a basic speeding ticket. They aren't going to put in the time and effort defending this in some trial. At some point it's not worth it for both parties.

They'll likely just go to the courthouse and get a deal to have your speed reduced slightly. It's ...

Re: Speeding 145KM/h

so I'm wondering is it possible that he hit the wrong car?

The spread on a laser device (if that's how he calculated your speed) over large amounts of distances is extremely minimal. The officer will also have more information in his notes which aren't usually limited to just pointing a device. You should probably read those before you assume ...

Re: Wrong charge for careless driving

You're assuming it's the wrong charge.

If you plan on arguing it's the wrong charge, then be prepared to argue it. Just because there's another charge that applies doesn't make you not guilty of careless driving.

Careless driving is a vague charge that can apply to practically anything and it's not exactly something Joe Schmo should be prepared ...

Re: Fail to remain/stop..parking lot

As far as insurance goes, They don't care whether it's in a parking lot or on a highway. Fault Determination Rules still apply. In your case, you'd be considered 100% at fault. If that person has your plate, they'll likely give it to their insurance provider and they'll take care of the rest.

In a parking lot, duty to report an accident still ...

Re: Officer charging for cell phone use

I was given ticket this morning as talking on the phone when I was not. Officer insisted that I apologize for doing so, but I did not. What would be my options to have the ticket cancelled?

Your question is extremely broad.

For starters, I'm already starting to assume you believe the ticket was for talking on your phone, when it's not that ...

Re: Have an early resolution soon, but would like advice on extending it

If you don't accept any offers at the early resolution, they will then book you a court date. How long your court date takes depends on how busy your area is. At your court date, they'll give you an offer(probably the same one). If your plan is to plead guilty, you can just accept it.

Re: Accident: Opposite driver was driving west in an eastbound left turn lane

The insurance said the most they can try to do is 50/50 because I was supposed to wait for the road to clear. But have I been mistaken this entire time, thinking that the "Do Not Block Intersection" was for people going into the small road and also coming out to turn right or left? Can someone find me the law that states you are not allowed to ...

Re: HTA vs. Bill 31 - Yielding to pedestrians crossover/crosswalks

I'd agree with argyll.

They are two different things. Crosswalk and Pedestrian Crossover both have their own definitions in the HTA.

"crosswalk" means,

(a) that part of a highway at an intersection that is included within the connections of the lateral lines of the sidewalks on opposite sides of the highway measured from the curbs or , in the ...

Re: Passing a car that was accelerating going downhill

Your chances of a reduced speed are good. There's room for them to work there. It doesn't sound like it was already reduced at the scene.

They'll give it to you because it's worth more to them that you take it rather than go through with a time consuming trial.

Whether it's worth taking a day off is up to you. You can have someone go for you also.

Re: Passing a car that was accelerating going downhill

You had other options. Safest route is to slow back down and put yourself back behind that driver. That's not excusing the other driver. He/she is an idiot. What he did is also against the Highway Traffic Act. It's stunt driving with an intention to prevent another vehicle from passing. That being said, what you've provided isn't a valid defense ...

Re: Does any of this help?

I have never heard of any such requirement for a red light camera sign. The sign doesn't tell you to do anything. There's tons of signs that are a courtesy (e.g. "new" sign warning of changes to signage), but they are not a requirement.

As for the line, i'm not sure what you're trying to say there since these cameras are activated partly by speed ...

Re: Improper signage nearly leads to an accident - who would be at fault?

You story is a bit confusing because you say you were in the left lane but then you later say you continued in the right. I'm assuming you meant the left lane. I'm also assuming the sign was orange. It's simply a guideline, not the be all and end all.

Also, the sign wasn't for your lane. It was for the right. The driver in the right lane can ...
