Re: Charged with Careless
Go and talk to the prosecutor on your first appearance, likely reduced if not w/d.
Make a calm rational refutal of the grounds for the charge.
IF you they don't work with you, set a trial date and get representation...

Re: valid speeding defence?
Sad that you are out there with a measuring tape to ensure the sign isn't an inch to small, when you coulda been paying attention to your speed with a similar degree of precision.
Whether or not you succeed and I find it unlikely based on my 20+ years on the pen side of these affairs, the bottom line is it's not a classy defence.
Perhaps got to ...

+1 to Stanton, the officer can stop anybody they want, whenever, wherever and that's been upheld by superior courts.

Advice?
Stop driving.
People like you cause more carnage on our roads and don't deserve the privilege to share them with the majority of us who can travel at speeds resembling the speed limit.
150 in an 80, I'm thinking a 2 year licence suspension at the bare minimum.

Re: Plate Covers
I stopped a guy who had a photocopy of a plate mounted on cardboard behind a plastic cover cause he couldn't get plates...the covers hid that fact except I stopped him for something else and was seizing plates when I discovered it.
See the problems we can have with these stupid covers.

What happened?
My experience is that if you are on the traveled portion of the road, whether mobile or not, you are guilty.

Re: New Case Law - Game Changer - Speeding
It's a decision which originated in Sudbury but was upheld at the Ontario Court of Appeal, one of my co-workers laid the original charge and it's slim on details right now, our local prosecutor has asked us to hold off on laying charges this way until she gets the decision published and educates the JPs on it...I agree points aren't all the be all ...

Re: Offence Section Missing - Question.
I tend to disagree with Simon, which I seldom do, many of my offence notices (I write several hundred a year) over my career HAVE been amended for this omission.
The JPs tend to rule it's not a serious impediment to defending yourself.
You know the substance of the offence and the section number can easily be looked up.
Just sayin'

Yup, required then and there.
Some services allow up to 72 hours, but it not a right and and it's up to the officer's discretion!
