Another couple of questions of this topic. Both of my lids have pop-up vents. Technically that would not be a "smooth hard outer shell."
1) Can I get ticketed for that even though my regular lid is DOT+ECE certified and the spare is DOT+Snell certified?
2) What would be the difference between a pop-up vent and a mohawk in the eyes of the law?

Re: chronic accident locations
The kind of data that you're looking for isn't easy to get. First you'd need a dataset with Ontario's (or Hamilton's) transportation network and then to add accident info to it.. It'll run you a nice chunk of change (I'm guessing in the tens of thousands of dollars). Anything else you can get is no better than anecdotal.

I hope other constables read'em too. Otherwise, there goes $1000 down the drain and a suspension on the record.Reflections wrote: I think you can read some of 'bears more recent posts, and find that the officers should not use this section unless the facts are obvious, i.e. 255 in a 100 zone.

Well, if they're all crazy enough to volunteer for the job, we might as well take advantage of the opportunity. Early in the game it will reduce the individual workload and as the forum grows, there will eventually be the need for 3 people anyway.

Re: Left Turn when light turns, before letting oncoming traffic
While I'm not in favour of 172 in general, I am in favour of harsher penalties for this sort of a scenario. Most serious motorcycle injuries and deaths are caused by people making illegal left turns in front of them.

Re: Threatened with racing charges
I really hope the law enforcement community doesn't start laying stunting charges for riding in a formation. Stunting is a charge that's serious enough to make people reconsider the option of just running. If more people start running, they'll start laying down even more oppressive laws and make it even worse for the riding community. With the way ...

They're good for about 5 years of use, before you can't quite trust that the lining will absorb the impact and compress. That's assuming you wear it on a regular basis (body heat deteriorates it).
Also if I did decide to ride the bike home, I'd throw out the lid and pick up a new one. The el-cheapo spare would allow me to ride while shopping around ...

One of those kids complained that he got pulled over and the cop told him to either remove it or that he'll get a ticket for it. So I'm wondering what the charge would be in that case. For all I know, he could be talking smack.

On another forum, I was involved in a fairly heated discussion. While I didn't break any rules, 2 members did and got very hostile with each other. Both of them left the forum and they were great assets to the community. That was the time when I resigned as a mod and went back to the ranks.

I've seen a few younger riders with those mohawks on their helmets and was wondering if that's in some sort of violation of the HTA.

It will be viewed with suspicion. Of course if you're driving a s***-box, the cops probably won't be looking into it too closely. However, you should fix it up as well as you can.

Actually Bear gave his best advice and we should all be grateful to be able to view the perspective of the law enforcement community. Your last post came off a bit rude.

Passing on the right is illegal in Germany because hogging the left lane is both illegal and immoral over there. Drivers are taught proper lane discipline in Europe. Over here, hogging the left lane may be illegal, but it's not considered immoral and it's definitely not being enforced.

Bear, I might have been violating the h.t.a., but I sincerely doubt it. Got a red light ticket. Here's how it went.

But if you do try to evade and he eventually finds you, you might get some attitude and a bigger ticket. 8)
As long as he does not fabricate a charge (which is rare, but it does happen), I'm not really fishing for "reduced" tickets. Whether I'm going 5, 15 or 25 over, the insurance companies see a "conviction." Attitude doesn't really rattle me ...

Why would you waste your time in court by pleading to a lesser charge? Even if it's a 3 demerit offence, the ticket amount is relatively low and as far as your insurance company is concerned, it's still a "conviction". Chances are that they won't raise your rates for the first conviction, but if you get another one over the next 3 years, they'll ...

Re: proof of speeding 50km/h over posted
It's possible, but not highly likely. There are plenty of people who still do 50+ over the limit, so they don't really need to manufacture charges. With that being said, out of about 10 hta offences that I've been charged with over the years, one was a complete fabrication by the constable.
