Thanks Bear.
Stopping without putting the feet down isn't much of an issue for me or people I usually ride with (unless I lead a newbie ride). If we do it, we do it for appearances in case we know that a stop sign attracts a good amount of police attention. Even a misunderstanding can be costly.
In practice, in most cases we have the leader make ...

Re: Insurance Issues...
Thanks for the rundown. It's basically what I already knew but an alarming number of motorists is unaware of these facts and believe that a 5 over ticket is treated differently by the insurance industry than a 35 over ticket.
I would like to offer some caveats...
1) Accident forgiveness depends on the company. Mine would increase the rate after the ...

Stop sign questions
Let's say you're stuck behind a very indecisive person (a.k.a. a slow f-word) and they inched past the line and are waiting for the traffic to clear up for about 5 miles in both directions before making a right turn. So while you're waiting for the miracle to happen, can you just stop at the white line, wait for 3 seconds (more like 3 minutes) and ...

Re: Research help needed - motorcycle passengers
I remember being taken on the back of my big cousin's Tomos Automatic (50cc scooter) at the age of 12. Same story, no helmet, no gear. Ended up riding it for a few days too. That was the first and only time I ran away from cops.. Got away clean too.. By the time they aborted their traffic stop, I was already around the corner and even though I ran ...

Re: SLOW DOWN - Hwy 401 West of London
Thanks Bear. Those construction zones really tick me off. While I understand the need to protect the construction workers, here's one example that really makes me boil over:
QEW - Hurontario to Mississauga.. It's been a "construction zone" and the speed limits have been reduced for months. I go by there at least 4 times a week (at various times ...

Re: Research help needed - motorcycle passengers
Thanks Squishy. I can't believe that Jaczek is still pushing her dumbass law even after all of the evidence that it'll have absolutely zero contribution to passenger safety and that there already is a legislation in place to protect really small children. Well I can. She's a politician and she's doing it for "think of the children" votes.

Re: Research help needed - motorcycle passengers
Thanks guys but I'm looking for the specific legislation to show that there already is a law protecting children too small to reach the pegs and that further legislation is not needed.

Research help needed - motorcycle passengers
I am doing some independent research on Bill 117 and heard that there already is a piece of legislation where a motorcycle passenger has to be able to reach the pegs. A search of the HTA yielded no results for me. Does anyone know the specific act/section in question?

Re: Unmarked vs. Marked cruisers
Just wanted to make another note.. This has nothing to do with the constables or any people employed by the services. They just do what the province/municipality tells them in the most efficient way possible. If the government makes generating $$$ a priority over improving safety on the highways, it's not the cops to blame. Blame it on the Dalton ...

Re: Unmarked vs. Marked cruisers
Technically it's to deter lawbreaking activity with a visible presence. Based on that assumption it looks like that is becoming less and less of a priority for police services. Didn't they introduce a ghost that looks like a yellow cab in Milton?

Re: chronic accident locations
Same with the Kipling/427/Gardiner mess. However, good systematic data is hard to find and even if it could be found in tabular form, we'd still be missing a good Ontario road network dataset which costs a good chunk of change.
I am in possession of a couple of good road network datasets but couldn't legally disclose them. They were sourced from ...

That's a great example Bear. Here's a couple of specifics on each of the counts that I mentioned..
The Insurance Industry
1) They are whining about being overregulated but then they make dumb investments, lose money and raise premiums across the board.
2) If you call your insurance company and ask them "what if I were involved in a collision and ...

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
We're too spineless over here. The government and the corporations can do whatever they want to us and we're just going to shrug the shoulders and say "life sucks."
Now the Frenchies got the right idea.. When the government passed a law that was going to screw young workers out of steady employment, they took to the streets and started rioting ...

Re: 110 in a 80km while passing?
The charge is bull and there are too many overzealous cops that will nail you for it. Depending on my time/financial resources, I'd either fight it myself or hire a paralegal. While a single conviction on an otherwise clean record won't affect your rates with most insurers, if you get nailed with anything over the next 3 years (and that includes ...
