Re: Mounting plates

Could you point me to the section specifically referring to proper mounting/displaying of the plates other than what's in 13? It doesn't seem very specific, and I'd like to know more about the letter/application of the law in case I ever want to customise my bike or in case I purchase an already customised used bike.
Speaking of which, what's the ...

Re: New Stunting Laws - Is there any hope?

Well, it can also be used to prevent cramping, thus extending the leg of the trip before you need to pull over and do some real leg-stretching. That is especially useful when going back to civilisation and trying to make it before dark, when all of the furry critters come out to play.

Bear, this question is directed specifically at you, as a ...

Re: Failing to stop when requested by a police officer

Thanks for the clarification, bear. As I said, in the last decade and change as a driver, I've seen all sorts of things on the road.
As for the other situation, it's good to know that my practice was not a violation of the h.t.a. or any other laws (not counting going a bit over the limit) 8)

Re: Help! ticketed using HOV lane

That's most likely a non-fatal error. Could you tell us more about the circumstances.. Did it happen on a highway or on a city street? If it's just a Toronto bylaw ticket I'm pretty sure you can treat it the same as a parking ticket. If it happened on the 404, that's a different story and the consequences to your insurance record would be real.

Mounting plates

While I keep the plate on my motorcycle in the stock location, plenty of my fellow riders either position the plate underneath the tail (it is still visible from behind) or they mount them sideways on the swingarm. Which section do they get charged under for such practices? 13(3)?

Re: Pushing up the court date?

Thanks. I'll probably try it anyway since it can't really hurt me and I have 2 good reasons to back it up. The court date probably won't be pushed by one month. It will be pushed to whenever they can schedule it. Last time it happened (the session ran out of time), it was about four months.

Edit: I would/do appreciate additional input from you and ...

Re: Failing to stop when requested by a police officer

This one goes back about 15 years, when cell phones were not as common. We were travelling on a major highway, when a guy in an unmarked SUV, wearing civilian clothes, flashed some sort of a card and motioned for us to stop. The driver just kept on going. That brings me to question #1:
1) Let's say an unmarked cruiser is following my vehicle. All I ...

Re: New Stunting Laws - Is there any hope?

In addition to vehicle impoundment to the tune of $1000, I have 3 specific objections to the law:
1) While driver/vehicle licensing is under the Province's jurisdiction, the bottom line is that a license suspension is a form of punishment. The constable is supposed to lay charges and not dispense punishment on the side of the road. That should be ...

Pushing up the court date?

I have been charged with an HTA offence. Now, the trial is within 8 months from the offence date, so there's no chance in hell I'll get an 11b toss out of it. They also had the disclosure in good order, ready and waiting for me. While I do stand a good chance in court, I wanted to see if this strategy will pad my odds:
If I show up about a month ...

Re: how to request a trial date?

Just be careful and review the back of your ticket. In some municipalities, like Toronto, you have to show up in person to set a court date.

Hello,
As a motorist concerned with our current HTA enforcement practices, I decided to join this community to get educated and share my own experiences. Currently got a relatively minor case pending, but that's being handled by a professional. The only ways I participated in it so far were requesting the trial date and obtaining the disclosure.
