Re: Suspicious car on the street
Even if the divisions got restructured and yours got closed down, they should still have an outpost in the area. They come off as being more professional than the TPS, so such a call may even warrant a response.

It's a 600cc.. Good enough for some "creative evasion"
I don't do it though... I keep my nose clean enough not to risk anything than a minor violation. That's why I didn't mind giving it a custom colour scheme that's highly identifiable.

Re: Legality of Mohawks on helmets
Thanks Bear. In that case, I'll probably risk the legal consequences in the interest of better night-time visibility. It will be placed at the lower part of the helmet, in a no-impact area. It's also a bit flatter. The way I figure, it will appear stock to an uneducated constable and as a smart safety feature to an educated constable, so the heat ...

Re: Pulling over a group of bikes
It does depend on the circumstances, but generally people don't pull over if a constable pulls over a car behind them, so I don't see why anyone but the sweep should pull over. Of course if the constable continues following the group, the sweep has performed his legal duty in getting out of the way of an emergency vehicle, can re-join the traffic ...

Pulling over a group of bikes
Let's say I'm in a group of riders and the cop wants to issue some speeding tickets and he turns on his cherries. Would the whole group have to stop or just the vehicle in the rear of the group? The way I see it, only the last person should pull over. Of course if he's persistent with the cherries, we can pull over in 200m intervals. If at any time ...

Of course, unless your job depends on having 0 demerits, you already have 7 on your record or you're facing a major conviction (careless, stunting etc), having a ticket reduced will do absolutely nothing for your insurance record.

In a way I agree with both of you guys. However, I see a bigger problem in the ME ME ME culture that killed both signalling and lane discipline on our roads. We'll save a lot more lives if we focus our enforcement efforts on people who:
1) Signal never/during/after making the turn/lane change instead of before+during.
2) Left lane bandits

Another note. Any conviction on your record will affect your insurance rates. So if you ever get a ticket for going 1km/h over the speed limit, fight it the same way you'd fight a 35 over ticket unless you like padding your insurance company's pockets.
I had my rate go up 20% due to a 5km/h over ticket and I've seen people get tickets for as ...

It would affect your rate with most insurance companies and there's no way you can settle it with the cop. If you already tried to explain and he still wrote you a ticket, I don't think it'll help. In any case it's in the Crown's hand.

1) The only case you could have had was if the right lane was obstructed by something.
2) Otherwise, just because others got away with breaking the law doesn't negate the fact that you were caught doing it.
3) You can always try to get off on a technicality while it's still possible.

Slim to none.. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't go to court and dispute your charges. You have other outs (mostly procedural stuff.. check out ticketcombat.com).
For this offence, the cop was fairly reasonable with you. Basically within the lower end of the $400-$2000 scale for the first time around.

Somebody has to take charge of the scene, especially in cases where there's no breathing or heavy bleeding. My instructor told me to think of the person as a corpse. If you can't help them, you can't make'em any deader, if you save their life, it's a huge bonus, so you might as well try .

Bear, that's an insurance industry issue. Lowered speeds don't affect your insurance policy any less than the original speed. I think doc tickets are cool though. I'll double check with people who work in the industry though. That way the speeding drivers are still punished, the province gets its pound of flesh and the insurance industry gets ...

That's where I have my Eastern European upbringing to thank. Where I grew up, kids knew to cross only at crosswalks and to look left and right before actuallly crossing... By the age of 5. It's sad that kids here don't learn to do the same by the age of 12. Maybe community policing programs should be established to deal with the problem. Also more ...

You're giving some pretty good examples, Bear. Also one thing that really pisses me off are kids walking down the middle of the road and even ignoring cars when they see them coming up. And even if the car driver had been speeding, he'd have to be doing at least twice the speed limit for him not to be reasonably anticipated by turning traffic. Under those circumstances, there would have been no survivors.

While the p/u driver should be charged with quite a bit for his involvement in the collision (and not keep his licence), horse riders should also be more considerate of other vehicles on the roads.

A 15 over ticket is treated the same as 1 over and 45 over ticket. With that being said, I think the constable let you off easy. Whatever you were doing with your cell phone, if it distracted you enough for you to be swerving out of your lane, it can also qualify as careless driving. You could have easily killed someone.
