Re: motorcycle handlebar laws

Personal opinions of those "in the know" aside.
I'm still inquiring if my interpretation to the above law is sound.

Then let's do a basic physics lesson.. The higher the bars are, the less weight you can effectively put on them when turning, which seriously reduces your ability to countersteer, thus making you less likely to successfully ...

Re: Antique Autos / Hot Rods & Seat Belts

I believe that there's some consternation about the whole "speed kills" deal. The propaganda campaign was to impart the message that deviating from the speed limits by any amount will kill a person and that speeding is the leading cause of collisions.
A careful examination of statistical data yielded scientific evidence to the contrary, but that ...

In any case, I'd stay away from apehangers. While they may look good to some  they make riding unsafe and they look ridiculous to most people "in the know."

Re: Need advice: Improper use of HOV lane /No driver license

I got nailed like that on Dundas. The funny part is that I had paper stubs to prove that I was going to make a turn 100m ahead (I was expensing the parking fees) and he still nailed me with a ticket. Making a lane change and a turn on Dundas at 9am within 60m is suicide. Fortunately at least I had all of my papers/equipment up to spec. They need to ...

Re: Zero Tolerance for 1st 5 years of driving...

That's the problem of allowing the MADD cows to dictate our policy. Even their founder left'em because they shifted their focus from responsibility to prohibition. Eventually they'll remember that if nobody drives, there won't be any drunk drivers, and the sheeple will follow them.
Those who made the point about the fact that laws shouldn't be ...

Re: Disclosure Request

I think you have to give them the date and the courtroom in addition to the constable's name so they can contact the right prosecutor. For that reason, I'd wait until you get the notice. I'll give you something to do while waiting for your trial...

You should request the disclosure when you get your notice of trial. Ticket combat has a great sample disclosure request. I'd just leave out the phone number so they have to communicate with you in writing.

Re: red/amber light

You should be able to do it. In writing, hand deliver your request and have the clerk sign/stamp your request. If they try to unload it on you in court, refuse to accept it and raise a stink with the JP.

Re: charged with speeding 15 kl over in process of passing

This happens quite a bit.. People perfectly content to do 80 in a 90 zone accelerate to 110 as soon as you try or to pass'em. Seen too many of those goin' up/down 69.
Explaining the situation to the JP probably won't do you much good. Speeding is an absolute liability offence, which means that if you did it, you're guilty. You admit to it, you're ...

Re: Early Morning Photo OPP B&W

Runners have a few methods at their disposal to hide their plates...
1) They get fender eliminator kits, hide'em so deep under the tail that they're dang-near invisible when you sit on it (and compress the shock), especially when bent upwards at a 45-degree angle. (In all honesty, 90% of people with this sort of a setup only get it to pose)

+/- = approximately
You're just over 10 months, so you have a chance but it's very slim. These days, you have to catch the JP on the day when he won the lottery to get an 11b out for anything under 15 months in Toronto.
Read through the ticketcombat site and it'll clarify quite a few of these things for you.

Re: Early Morning Photo OPP B&W

I know a few guys who routinely run, mostly on liter bikes, but a few on 600's. Even met a guy who ran on a 250 and got away lol. I personally haven't done it as I make sure I don't cross the line too far, so the worst they can nail me for is a minor, which can easily be handled in court as opposed to a possible criminal charge.
With that being ...

Re: charged with speeding 15 kl over in process of passing

Just to clarify something... Whether it's 15 over, 25 over, 45 over or 5 over, it will be treated the same by the insurance industry. Unless you're a professional driver and need 0 points on your abstract to keep your job, your ticket isn't any less worth fighting. My insurance rates went up 20% because of a 10 over ticket and a 5 over ticket in a ...

Re: charged with speeding 15 kl over in process of passing

You didn't do anything wrong but you still broke the (stupid) law and got nailed for it. I'd take it to court and try to get off on a technicality, such as 11b or lack of disclosure. Check out this site http://www.ticketcombat.com/ as it will give you a great primer on the process and your options. Good luck!

Re: What are my rights when being pulled over?

Technically, you're only required to identify yourself. With that being said, if you take that route, you fail the attitude test and he can go over you with a fine-toothed comb.
As soon as you opened up the glove compartment, the smokes were in plain sight and that gives the constable probable cause to search your vehicle (the way I understand the ...

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?

No arguments from me on that count. I personally subscribe to the European school of driving. No matter how fast I'm going in the left lane, if I see someone moving up from behind, I get out of the way. I'd do that even if I were breaking the speed record for section 172. And Bear, while this post mentions speed, the main focus of it is courtesy :8

The scary part is that she probably pays less for insurance than I do (25+ but under 30, clean record). As for Brampton, it is a bit crazy but highway 10 in general is brutal all the way down to the lake and Markham/Richmond Hill area is still a bit worse. I need to have a coin dispenser loaded with pennies mounted on my bike for that area
