Re: Suuuuure, there are no quotas

Thanks for the congrats guys. Gettin' hitched next Saturday, but since I will have some family from overseas visiting, we'll put off the honeymoon for a couple of days. A buddy who couldn't make it to Stag #1 (of possibly 3 as there are to be 2 weddings on 2 continents - South America and Europe - and I already had my stag here) gave me a gift card ...

3) Now they're introducing harsh penalties for people that are perfectly capable of driving (at least when it comes to the blood alcohol content).

I had to be a "test subject" when I took the breath course. I was in the "warn" range at 65mgs.....I could not walk straight and I felt like taking a big ole nap.

The way I understand it is that this would be a fatal error and the charge should be beatable. With that being said, I'd wait for more knowledgeable people like TC to chime in, confirm this and give you the best way to go about it. Don't take it to court just yet but don't wait for longer than 2 weeks either (in case the guys don't get around to ...

Re: Interpretation of reasonable inspection upon the demand

In our area, we have officers threatened on the highway, threatening notes left on garbage bags in a uturn, homemade steel spike belts placed in uturns and threatening phone calls.

I can't believe this s***!!! It's not the constable's fault that he has to do his job based on the guidelines that come from higher up above. In any case, even if he ...

Re: Stay Applications: 15 Days Notice Is Not Enough

It really depends on the reason that you give the JP as long as he isn't "on the rag" that day. Some people got away with only 5 days' notice. The general recommendation in case you have a barely valid reason is about 3 weeks though.

In fact, the Montreal Police Brotherhood says officers were recently told by their superiors to start issuing 28 tickets a ...

Re: MPP (PC Leader Candidate) wants speed limit Increased

Most people wouldn't go over 130 anyway. Past 130 you start burnin' up the gas like there's no tomorrow. You are correct about the northerners. While they may go loco in an urban setting, they are still able to adjust to various weather conditions.
That way, we can reduce the speed limit enforcement and focus in on deviating from the flow of ...

Re: MPP (PC Leader Candidate) wants speed limit Increased

Agreed, but I'm sure there are laws against walking on the highways and they could have been ticketed for that in addition to jaywalking. A couple of c-notes each should make them reconsider the b.s. Also, the ones who took their kids there could get in hot water for child endangerment. So we have laws to cover what they did. We don''t need laws ...

As for the Tamils... We already have laws against what they've been doing.

Re: MPP (PC Leader Candidate) wants speed limit Increased

While I agree with Squishy in principle, I sure as hell would NOT want to be under constant surveilance. I know that technology is improving to the point where it's cheap to monitor and record a person's actions 24/7, without breaking the bank. However, having the photo radar out there is like assuming that everyone is a potential criminal. In any ...

A few years ago in Sudbury, I was driving with an expired insurance slip (had a valid policy but my mailing address was in Toronto; I was staying on the LU campus). I ended up having to go to the station with a validly dated slip and a ticket never appeared on my record. What happened to that?

Re: MPP (PC Leader Candidate) wants speed limit Increased

Raising the limits would really depend on the highway for me. I've come across very few roads in Ontario where it's unsafe to do 20 over. Even 130 isn't unreasonable on most stretches of the 400 series highways (depending on time/traffic/weather).
We really are a nanny state. Driving in Europe, I've come across some 80km/h limit roads where safety ...

Yes. This time just request the missing item and mention the fact in your next disclosure request that the disclosure package that you received is missing the item that you already requested.

You should certainly request a typed version in plain English. Police shorthand isn't the easiest "language" to understand. TC has a good disclosure request form on his site so you may want to use it when requesting the additional disclosure material.

I'd consider requesting the disclosure upon receiving the trial notice. That way the constable won't get an opportunity to review the offence notice, fix it and issue a new one immediately.

Re: JP rules - HTA172 violates the charter

People are less likely to spend time in the right lane for 2 reasons...
1) Some of tie actual merge lanes are extremely short and you really have to push your vehicle to get up to speed
2) Even where you don't, too many Ontario drivers aren't aware of the far right pedal and seem to let their engine accelerate on its own, thus merging at 60km/h.

Good point. So another driver has to make a couple of lane-changes to get around a couple of these inconsiderate f-words and all of a sudden he's a "street racer." What a way to treat the result instead of treating the cause.

And even then, you'd have smartasses who'd "pass" doing 1km/h more than the guy to the right. Driving south of the border, I'd be about to pass 2 trucks when one would swing by in front of me and start passing the other one at a snail's pace. Usually those a-holes had those stickers saying "Without trucks America stops."

Re: Don't run

To me, running is not worth the risk. Did it once, at the age of 12 (got away clean) and never again. With the benefit of adulthood, the most important issue about running is putting others at risk. If I hurt some innocent person in the process, I could never live with myself.

Running from a Busa would require an R1 and some creativity. Of course, that would only be in the twisties. On a straight highway or even in moderate twisties, a Busa would be dang-near impossible to get away from if the constable knows what he's doing on 2 wheels.

At first I was going to take the story with a grain of salt as too many cops risk their lives by stepping out in front of fast-moving vehicles with a very small safety margin. However, the fact that the kid ran and tried to hide the truck is a strong indicator of the fact that this wasn't the case... Trying to end a human life over a 27 over ticket ...
