Wouldn't the driver, who had decided to change his mind to proceed despite his signal and apparent intention, be responsible to ensure that he can proceed in safety?
Maybe...
But it could get rather complicated I think.
What if I just noticed my blinker has been on for miles, and I cancel it as I approach an intersection. Have I now given up ...

Re: collision with police car!
I'm pretty sure as long as you don't file a claim and weren't charged with anything, your rates won't be affected (even if you inform your insurance company). Our oldest boy had a wreck a while back. We called insurance for advice. THEY suggested paying the damages in cash to avoid an insurance increase. So even though they KNOW he had a wreck ...

Re: 2 tickets - worth negotiating?
I have been issued a "fix-it" ticket before. I correct the problem then report to the police station to show the repair has been made and they cancel the ticket (keeping $10 though).
I don't think this is the case here. A real ticket was issued.

I don't think the cops can repeal the ticket. Could be wrong though. I thought the Crown handles that.

Re: stopping for a school bus
I can't see where it says, "you can't pass a school bus with it's flashing lights on". Sure it applies if the bus is STOPPED or if you are more than 20 metres behind it.
What do you do if you are under 20 metres by the time the bus stops?? I would deduce that you can pass legally. The bus driver would have the responsibility of NOT opening the ...

Duty of drivers when school bus stopped
175.(11) Every driver or street car operator, when meeting on a highway, other than a highway with a median strip, a stopped school bus that has its overhead red signal-lights flashing, shall stop before reaching the bus and shall not proceed until the bus moves or the overhead red signal-lights have ...

I just can't imagine how an intersection with lights AND stop signs could work!
If it were me, I'd take a plea bargain to Improper Left if it were offered. If no plea bargain were offered, I would request a trial and hope/expect that either the officer or the victim won't show up (the Crown would need both in court).
You could argue that the ...
