I've got what may be a dumb question here but I'm putting it out there any ways. Why are there speed limits (MAXIMUM) and not speed ranges. No matter where you go the speed on any given highway fluctuates. On most 400 series I'd hazard a guess of about 30 over for average highway speed on a fast day, and yet most officers will let this go if it's the general flow of traffic. Section 132 even states that any driver will not travel at a slow enough speed as to impede traffic. Granted that the exception is that you will not go fast enough as to be a danger. Isn't the real issue not that people are speeding, but are giving themselves no time to react at such a speed by tailgating. Why don't cops regularly enforce tailgating laws rather than speeding so that more people will learn to space themselves more safely on highways? Would having a highway you can travel 100-120 km/h in be so bad? As well anybody who rides up the ass of another driver would be entirely likely to get a ticket? If anyone hits anyone at 80+ km/h, someone will get hurt. Make the ones who provide no reaction time pay up. Just an idea though.

now here is own thoughts after being in traffic for over a decade. Marked car = angels If more cruisers/officers on roads = more cost to taxpayers to get the deterrent level needed to stop the aggressive driving. so take an typical vehicle (say a GMC Envoy silver) and make it a traffic enforcement vehicle, kitted up with full lighting, siren and drive down the hwy, will not be long before someone follows too close or cuts through many lanes. Target vehicle gets stopped....for say 15min......500 drivers see the vehicle stopped by an Envoy. Now further down the road say 30km, another officer is in a blue Caravan and stops someone......now the drivers see that cruiser with someone pulled over.....many of us (myself included) would be leary of the next Envoy or Caravan in those colours......but keep mixing it up. I believe that would be more of a deterent than seeing a full marked car as you know where it is. Just my last trip thru the GTR in a rental vehicle, I saw many different "aggressive" offences (outside of speed), which disrupts the "flow" of traffic that many talk about.

lol. I don't know why but that really had me laughing. i think i just imagined a ninja style cop jumping out of that blue caravan. "HOLY S@#$! They're everywhere!" I say that every impounded car gets turned into a police cruiser. :shock:

On the 404 I've seen Yukons/Suburbans, Caravans, and Tributes that have pulled cars over. On Yonge St. in Thornhill just north of Clark I've seen the Envoy pulling cars over too. Just the other day a black suburban came up on me with lights and siren on but to tell you the truth I didn't notice him until he was almost beside me. My window was open all the way but his siren sucked and his lights were not too bright behind the blacked out windows. This was on Bathurst north of Gamble in a 80 k/mh zone. In the past I've seen Jettas,Maximas,Durangos,Honda Vans and Intrepids. The brunt of it is you just never know so drive normally.

I have received a $450 ticket for parking in a handicap loading zone. I did not see the sign and the pavement was not marked. I got a parking ticket on Halloween around 9pm for parking in front of a cross walk in a residential street. There's no sign or anything that says you can't park there.

I keep being told that if you are found to be driving with bare feet, you could be fined etc... but nowhere can I find the actual rule anyway. ... two cars pulled over, we (my wife and 7 month old boy) were passing a truck in the passing lane, first car passed me and I pulled out behind him. Crested a hill while on a curve, pass the truck and move back into the driving lane. Police officer shows up behind and pulls us both over. Gave me a ticket saying I was following the car in front doing 124km/hr.
We all know that numerous police agencies around Ontario (and world for that matter) set up speed traps in inconspicuous locations to catch motorists who are speeding.

Been charged with Careless Driving in a residential area.
1. The Officer has a Witness statement. If the Witness does not appear at Trail, can that statement be introduced at Trial by the Crown and used against me.?
2. The Address "Number" (the Street is correct) on the infraction does not remotely exist, is an empty field. Does this matter?
Is there a requirement for commercial vehicles to be maintained only by licensed mechanics (e.g., oil changes, tire rotations)? I'm working with Habitat for Humanity and we are looking into a cargo van for the ReStore; I'm more than capable of doing maintenance but I'm not sure if it is legal because I am not a licensed mechanic.
