Hi I was going out to lunch with some friends on a sunny day last week and made the dumb choice to squish one extra person in the back. I was caught and pulled over the police officer was very nice about it and thought she was going to let me off with a warning or small fine. She came over and said its a serious crime to not wear your seat belt and gave me a $240 ticket. The ticket said " Passenger fail to occupy position with seat belt" do you think it should have been that high? Just wondering! ![]()

Police have no discretion over the fine amount. There is a set fine for every offence which is determined by the Courts. You can find the list for HTA offences here: http://www.ontariocourts.ca/ocj/how-do- ... hedule-43/

Re: To many people, not enough seatbelts
Just to clarify, were you the driver of the car with the extra passenger or a passenger?
