The law is a joke.
Not that i care but it shows how fast even the police drive. Other cops to have been charged with this law.
This one really gets peoples attention. Not only was she speeding like mad, she didnt even have her lights on, was not on call or to an emergency and out of her zone?
May i ask what was she doing exactly? Why would an ...

Re: People are Driving Faster
One more thing i have always thought about what a higher more realistic speed limit around where 85 percent of cars actually drive. Lets say a speed limit of 120-130 km/hr seems to be where most are at now.
1. This would get the super slow drivers off 400 series highways. Those that dont feel comfortable at this speed which often cause major ...

Okay hwybear i must admit i do agree with what alot of you say.
So okay ill agree lets say the human body can with stand a crash at 130 km/hr. Here is my response
1. The rest of the world (england, germany, france) drive everyday at 130 km/hr (official limit 120-130). They live to tell the tale. In fact they also do this in much older cars which ...

He has a point just because he is on the shoulder does not mean they are checking for speeders. OPP have many different duties. Not all there tickets are for speeding and there is no qouta.
All though there is extra pay for court days and they get over time pay for doing it on "off days" or off shift. Thats my problem also with 172, 172 is ...

Re: People are Driving Faster
Sure you can school and tell people and make new laws. But they won't listen. They wont care. They wont take it serious. So how do we deal with those left lane drivers who cause traffic jam's and cause road rage in other drivers. Well here they don't care they just clog traffic.

Why doesn't Julian Fantino make a new law the OPP could enforce. This must be the solution (sarcasm)
If you are causing traffic backups then they should tow your car on the spot. Then they should also take your order from the drive through and give it to charity.
They should come up with a new Law called Street Parking or something like that. I ...

I agree.
Cops should need to show proof with the radar detector either the Genesis 2 or the Laser guns they have. They should have something to print them off computerized.

Hey have you gotten out of alot of 50 over tickets aswell?
Isnt a 50 over ticket mandatory court date aswelll?

Re: HTA172 and police conduct
Now i am taking a wild guess but the OPP dont make laws. Its the province and the MTO the OPP enforce them. They have regional detachments and highway safety detachments. I am sure some officers know that it is not right to essentially make someone guilty without the right to a fair trial.
But it is not the officers fault. The officer was just ...

Re: HTA172 and police conduct
This law has been wrong since day 1. We already have laws for speeding and racing. For going 50 over you could just increase the fines. Speeding is not necessarily street racing or Stunt driving. It doesn't catch real street racers. Instead it makes criminals out of what tons of people do all the time when our highways permit it (low volume)

Is it just me or do people seem to drive extremely fast on the 400. I read an article by Jim Kenzie saying he has seen people fly by over 150 and not get stopped and it seemed they were looking for ones going 70 over.

Hey i had another question it may be a bit off topic.
It seems all the highway safety divisions have 3 vehicles. Marked crown vics, unmarked crown vics, and marked tahoes. I was wondering why they use tahoes for highway patrol?
I usually see the vics are doing radar enforcement and i have only really seen the tahoe's at scenes of accidents. In ...

The crown vics i think are a 4.6l V8. They are not as fast as the charges but i beleive they are much safer. I think they have the best rating for crashes slaming into the back and have an added roll cage and other extra safety features.
