Re: 3 Tickets in 3 days but the third ticket is demerit poin
The paralegal I used charged me $250 plus tax to handle my red light ticket. Another one quoted me $350 + tax. It might cost you more depending on the number of tickets you want to fight.

Do a search, there are plenty of topics discussing this on this forum, and around the internet.

Don't plead guilty, cause if you plead guilty, then you have to pay the fine, take the demerit points, and get the insurance hike.
You've just been handed the winning ticket that most people hope for! lol so don't plead guilty! That'd be like winning the lottery and throwing the ticket away!

I've heard of people getting dinged for this, then taking the new sticker to court and getting off the charge (or possibly reduced in some way, I honestly can't remember). I'm not sure if blaming it on your wife would do you any favours (in court or at home, lol), as your supposed to make sure that the vehicle you're driving is legal in all aspects ...

If you look at http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/statutes/french/elaws_statutes_90h08_f.htm#s141s7 , it basically states that when making a turn from a designated turning lane (there are signs there, like stanton said), you must turn into the corresponding lane on the roadway you're turning onto. Failure to do so is why you got the disobey sign ...

Well you make some interesting points although.........

How long before your court date did you request disclosure? If you gave them an appropriate amount of time and they didn't get it to you with enough time to prepare a defence, or before your court date, then you could request an adjournment of the case, but make sure it's placed as a result of the courts failure to provide you with time to go over ...

Well, I remember driving west on the 401 from the DVP to Dixon/Martin Grove a year or two ago in blinding rain, and couldn't see the orange (construction) lines worth a shiznit, and judging from the other cars driving all over the place, no one else could either, until the white lines showed up again.

I remember in elementary school, around grade 4-5, the cops set up a program with our school, where they pulled over the speeders, and then had the little kids (us) write the warnings and hand them to the speeders, emphasizing the fact that they could of killed us by speeding (as there had been a couple of fatal car vs pedestrian accidents at the ...

I just want to say that yes a paralegal is "expensive", at least the up front cost is.
However, consider the impact that a Careleess Driving conviction carries: Heavy fine, 6 demerit points, possible loss of license (unlikely in your circumstances but could happen if you already have demerit points.)

Re: What to do if you witness an HTA infraction
You can report it to the police, but nothing can really be done. The cops may watch out for a car matching his description for a short while (to see if they can catch him in the act), but not much else they can do. Though I've heard of instances where people have gotten so many complaints against them that they get a letter sent to their house ...

Definitely seek legal representation. Like you seem to be aware of, your insurance rates will likely double if convicted (especially with an accident and possible injury in the mix). If you think long term costs, the paralegal may save you a lot of money (and stress).

Yea, sometimes it's just not worth it (and next time consider checking your rear-view mirror first ;)) . Did the officer say if he clocked you with radar?
I'd suggest you pick option 3 (trial option) and request disclosure, to see what evidence the officer has. You might be able to get it dropped to a lesser charge. A paralegal would be able to ...

Well, you've asked a general question, to which the general answer would be "Yes, fight it. And consider hiring a paralegal since careless is a serious charge".

I don't doubt it, lol. You could probably sit there with your lights flashing and still catch people. Hell, when I first got my license at 17 I ran a red light down the street from a police station with a cruiser right behind me (D'oh!). I started paying more attention after that.

Just an FYI, Eglinton is 50 km/h west of laird. Travelling eastboud, it goes up to 60 as you go down the big hill. Cops are always doing radar along the stretch between Laird and Bayview (and along most of Eglinton east of there up to Victoria Park, for that matter). Technically speaking even if the other person illegally used the turn lane, you could still be charged for failing to yield from a private drive. Under insurance fault determination rules which are separate from the HTA, you'd be 100% at fault as well I believe.

With regards to your drinking coffee while driving inquiry, it would make sense that you could get a ticket for it. I've never heard of it happening, but I have heard of people getting a ticket for eating (a sandwich) while driving. Where do you really draw the line between the two?
